Pro-Ject Uni Box S3: the compact stereo amplifier that combines advanced streaming with analog fidelity

July 03, 2025

In an audio market where the boundaries between digital and analog are fading, the Pro-Ject Uni Box S3 offers a different approach. This compact integrated amplifier combines the qualities of analog signal with the features of high-resolution multiroom streaming.

Compact and Durable Construction

The Uni Box S3’s aluminum chassis, available in black or silver, presents a minimalist design that contrasts with its wealth of built-in features. This choice of material helps reduce vibrations and enhances the device’s durability, while also limiting its environmental footprint through measured use of aluminum. Made in Europe, the device is built for longevity, with an architecture that clearly separates the analog section from the streaming part, allowing the amplifier to remain relevant even as streaming technology evolves. Dual-Mono Architecture and Class D Amplification

The Uni Box S3 adopts the proven dual-mono architecture from the MaiA S3, promoting channel separation and sound dynamics. The Class D amplification delivers 2 x 40 W at 4 ohms (or 2 x 23 W at 8 ohms), a power output suitable for most bookshelf or medium-sized living room speakers. This compact format involves no compromise on the ability to energize a home listening space.

Preservation of the Analog Signal

Unlike many connected amplifiers that systematically convert all incoming signals to digital, the Uni Box S3 preserves the integrity of analog sources. Whether it’s a turntable, a CD player, or an FM tuner, the signal remains analog from input to output, with no unnecessary conversion. This approach maintains the unique texture and dynamics of each source.

High-Resolution Streaming with WiiM OS

On the digital side, the Uni Box S3 relies on WiiM OS, a streaming platform renowned for its stability and rich features. The device supports audio streaming up to 24-bit/192 kHz via Wi-Fi, thanks to a Cirrus Logic CS4344 DAC, and offers direct access to Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz, TuneIn, Deezer, Amazon Music, and other services. Multiroom management, handled by the LinkPlay platform, allows you to synchronize playback with other compatible Pro-Ject or WiiM devices, for a seamless audio experience throughout the home.

The new Pro-Ject Home app, similar to the WiiM interface, makes it easy to set up, control volume, adjust EQ, and manage multiroom, while also allowing you to stream an analog source to other rooms. Extensive Connectivity and Versatile Use

The Uni Box S3 is not limited to streaming. It offers a wide range of connections:

  • Three analog inputs, including an MM phono input for turntables
  • Three digital inputs (optical, coaxial)
  • An HDMI eARC input for TV audio
  • Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 5.1 for wireless streaming
  • A 6.3 mm headphone output on the front, powered by a dedicated amplifier
  • A variable (RCA) subwoofer output, also usable for a second zone

This versatility allows the Uni Box S3 to fit seamlessly into a traditional hi-fi system, a compact home theater setup, or as the heart of a multiroom ecosystem.
