Bluesound POWERNODE 2025: the connected amplifier reimagined for the streaming and multiroom era

July 04, 2025

In an audio landscape where ease of use and technical versatility have become essential criteria, Bluesound’s new POWERNODE streaming amplifier stands out as a unique proposition. Far from being just a cosmetic update, this 2025 version thoroughly reworks its architecture to meet the expectations of modern audiophiles, while also opening up to advanced home theater and multiroom uses.

Redesigned amplification for more power and precision

The heart of the POWERNODE has evolved significantly. Bluesound has moved away from the HybridDigital amplification of the previous generation in favor of a DirectDigital circuit, supported by gallium nitride (GaN) transistors. This technical choice aims to improve energy efficiency and reduce distortion, especially at high volumes, for cleaner and more dynamic sound reproduction.

In stereo, the device now delivers 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms, a notable increase over the previous version’s 80 watts. When a center channel is added for a 3.1 setup, the power adjusts to 80 watts per channel, making it easy to drive a wide range of speakers, including demanding floorstanding models. Quad-core processor and high-end DAC for high resolution

The digital section is equally impressive. The POWERNODE features a quad-core ARM Cortex-A53 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz, ensuring smooth handling of audio streams, even in high resolution or multiroom scenarios. The 32-bit/384 kHz digital-to-analog converter delivers detailed and precise playback of files up to 24-bit/192 kHz, with support for MQA and DSD256 formats for native file enthusiasts.

Extensive connectivity and home theater integration

The device offers a wide range of connection options to suit any usage scenario. It includes dual-band Wi-Fi, gigabit Ethernet, bidirectional Bluetooth aptX HD, as well as digital (optical, miniTOSLINK), analog (RCA, 3.5 mm), and USB-A inputs. The addition of an HDMI eARC port makes integration with a TV easy, turning the POWERNODE into a true audio-video hub for the living room.

The most notable new feature is the ability to power a center channel via a third set of binding posts, paving the way for 3.1 configurations without a dedicated home theater amplifier. Going further, the “BluOS Bonded Speaker Link” system allows you to add wireless surround speakers (Pulse Flex or a second POWERNODE) and enjoy Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, without relying on your home Wi-Fi for multichannel transmission. User experience and multiroom ecosystem

All features are controlled via the BluOS Controller app, which centralizes access to streaming services (Spotify, Tidal, Qobuz, Amazon Music…), internet radio, and local libraries. The BluOS ecosystem lets you synchronize playback across multiple Bluesound or partner devices, for a seamless and scalable multiroom experience.

Compatibility with AirPlay 2, Amazon Alexa, and touch controls on the top panel further enhance usability, while DSD playback support and Roon Ready certification broaden the range of possible uses.
