Diapason d'Or

The number 1 in classical music and hi-fi. It is a benchmark in the field of classical music and hi-fi, as well as the distinction it awards to the best devices each year

Overview

Among Synthesis products, the Roma 96DC+ is undoubtedly one of the most interesting, as it combines a multifunction approach and a certain compactness in an amp that is certainly not intended for the most power-hungry speakers, but will be perfectly at ease in demanding configurations, for example with a pair of mid or high-end Hifi bookshelf speakers.

Offering a power of 25 W per channel under 6 ohms, this stereo integrated amplifier is not only a tube amplifier, it is also a state-of-the-art digital-to-analog converter, combined with a phono preamp section compatible with MM and MC cartridges (moving magnet and moving coil).

Its conversion stage is based on an Asahi Kasei AK4495S chip, a high-end reference of the same generation as the very famous AK4497. Equipped with USB-B, coaxial RCA and optical digital inputs, the Roma 96DC+ adopts the three most common standards in digital audio. This device supports PCM files up to 32 bits / 384 kHz (via USB) and native DSD128.

For amplification, the Roma 96DC+ features tubes at all stages; but these are mainly classic references and therefore easy to obtain in case of replacement: one 12AU7/ECC82 tube per channel for the pre-amplification stage and two matched EL34/6CA7 in push-pull class A for the power stage. This classic assembly topology is perfectly suited to tube amplifiers in this power range. A class B assembly would, for example, have provided a better power reserve, but lower musical performance.

Two RCA Line inputs, one RCA phono input, one RCA output and a pair of speaker terminals complete the equipment of this Synthesis Roma 96DC+ integrated amplifier.
