The ArtSound UNI30 is a two-way passive hi-fi speaker with a bass-reflex enclosure, designed for medium-sized spaces. Sold in pairs, it offers a compact form factor while still delivering bass reproduction. Its spherical ball-joint mount allows wall or ceiling installation. The speaker can be used in residential interiors or professional environments such as shops and restaurants.

The Universals series: three models, one shared approach

The UNI30 is part of the Universals range, a series of surface-mount speakers available in three models: UNI20, UNI30, and UNI40. Each model targets a different room size and power level:

The UNI30 thus occupies an intermediate position: more powerful than the UNI20 and equipped with a bass-reflex port that allows it to better reproduce low frequencies, yet more compact than the UNI40, which is intended for large rooms or high volume levels.

The Universals series is characterized by a clean front panel combined with rounded corners, an aesthetic choice that ensures a discreet presence in both contemporary and traditional interiors. ArtSound boasts more than 20 years of expertise in designing these speakers.

Acoustic design and drivers

The UNI30 uses a two-way configuration, sharing the work between a 3.5-inch woofer and a half-inch tweeter.

The woofer uses a polypropylene cone reinforced with mica. This composite provides both lightness and rigidity, two essential qualities for a driver tasked with reproducing low-mid frequencies with precision and responsiveness. Polypropylene is highly resistant to humidity, making the speaker suitable for environments such as kitchens.

The neodymium magnet tweeter handles the high frequencies. Neodymium enables a powerful magnetic field in a compact format, which helps keep the overall size down while ensuring a fast response to transients.

The bass-reflex port, located at the rear of the speaker, plays an active role in extending the low end. It allows the air inside the cabinet to contribute to the reproduction of low frequencies, partially compensating for the inherent limitations of the small enclosure volume.

The frequency response extends from 100 Hz to 20 kHz. The lower limit of 100 Hz indicates that sub-bass frequencies are not covered—a coherent choice given the compact form factor of the speaker. For applications requiring deeper bass, adding a subwoofer can complete the system.

Enclosure and mounting bracket

The UNI30’s enclosure is molded in ABS, a thermoplastic known for its strength, light weight, and ease of manufacture. This material ensures good durability and long-term reliability.

With dimensions of 180 × 115 × 112 mm and a weight of 1.2 kg, the speaker is easy to handle and install. Its vertical rectangular format can also be oriented horizontally if needed.

The included mounting bracket offers multiple functions and enables quick installation. The spherical ball-joint articulation allows alignment in the desired orientation, including horizontal positioning. This freedom of placement is particularly useful when the speaker is mounted high up: it can be tilted downward to direct the sound toward the listening area.

Connection is via pluggable screw terminals, which greatly simplifies hooking up the speaker cable. This design allows for a neat installation, even in hard-to-reach locations.

Power and compatibility

The UNI30 is a passive speaker, which means it requires an external amplifier to operate. Its power handling is between 20 and 60 watts, and its 8-ohm impedance makes it compatible with the vast majority of hi-fi and home theater amplifiers available on the market.

Its sensitivity of 90 dB at 1 watt / 1 meter indicates decent efficiency: a modest amplifier will be sufficient to deliver a satisfactory sound level for domestic use or background music in commercial environments.

For professional installations using 100-volt lines (typical in shops and public venues with long cable runs), ArtSound offers a specific variant: the UNI30T. This version includes a transformer allowing switching between standard 8-ohm operation and 100 V mode.
