Yamaha SPS-3000 (pack of 2)
Overview
The SPS-3000 is much more than a simple stand: developed exclusively to accompany the NS-3000 speaker, this stand ensures the correct height for seated listening while minimizing reflection effects. With its rigorously distributed 15.3 kg mass and multilayer construction, this stand embodies Yamaha’s uncompromising approach to sound reproduction.
A methodical construction in the service of rigidity
This stand is made of several materials of different densities: rubberwood, MDF, and a 6 mm thick metal reinforcement. The 6 mm thick metal top plate rests on an MDF and rubber support, creating an optimal interface between the speaker and its base. This thoughtful layering serves a specific purpose: after the speaker’s rigidity has been meticulously designed and engineered, the stand must not compromise it.
The MDF base reaches a thickness of 35 mm, reinforced by a 5 mm metal plate. The weight of 15.3 kg per unit plays an inertial role against unwanted vibrations, preventing micro-movements that could affect the precision of spatial positioning. The central column in rubberwood brings its specific mechanical properties, notably its ability to damp certain resonance frequencies. The rubber inserted between the MDF and the upper metal plate provides an additional barrier against the propagation of high-frequency vibrations.
The decoupling system: between anchoring and isolation
The supplied decoupling spikes provide perfect stability. These spikes offer two installation configurations: 629 mm in height without spikes, 648 mm with them. The SPS-3000’s anti-vibration feet protect against any negative impact from vibrations, thereby maintaining audio precision.
The spikes serve a selective coupling function: they anchor the stand to the floor to prevent any wobble, while reducing the contact surface between the stand and the floor. This geometry limits the transmission of structural vibrations from the building to the speaker, while allowing the evacuation of mechanical energy generated by the drivers.
Visual harmony with the NS-3000 series
The SPS-3000 stands perfectly complement the NS-3000, designed to match exclusively with this speaker. The black piano lacquer finish matches the speaker’s surface treatment, creating a coherent ensemble. This attention to aesthetics reflects Yamaha’s expertise: the brand is one of the two largest piano manufacturers in the world, with 130,000 units produced per year.
The rectangular shape of the base (306 × 401 mm) ensures sufficient stability, even on carpet. The final height of 648 mm (with spikes) positions the NS-3000’s tweeter at ear level for a seated listener, optimizing soundstage coherence and reducing early reflections from horizontal surfaces.
A thoughtful installation
Assembling the SPS-3000 with the NS-3000 requires two people due to the combined weight approaching 30 kg per speaker. Due to the material’s characteristics, the wood of the NS-3000 may shrink, and the screws may loosen due to vibrations caused by music playback, warranting periodic tightening checks.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the SPS-3000’s compatibility with other speakers?
The SPS-3000 was developed exclusively for the Yamaha NS-3000. The dimensions of the top plate, the mounting points, and the load capacity were calculated specifically for this speaker. Use with other models is neither recommended nor guaranteed, as the mechanical characteristics may not be suitable.
Why offer two different heights (with and without spikes)?
The 19 mm difference allows for positioning adjustments according to the type of floor. On thick carpet or rugs, the spikes pierce the textile layer to anchor the stand to the rigid structure underneath. On hardwood or tile, the user can remove the spikes to protect the floor while maintaining effective decoupling thanks to the rubber integrated into the stand’s construction.
Should the SPS-3000’s column be filled with sand or pellets?
No. Unlike some hollow stands on the market, the SPS-3000’s construction already incorporates solid rubberwood in its column. Yamaha has sized and selected the materials to achieve the desired mechanical characteristics without requiring any additions. Any modification could alter the acoustic balance intended by the designers.
