Two main categories of mounts
Ceiling mounts are the most common solution. They allow you to install the projector overhead to free up floor space and ensure optimal placement facing the screen. Most models offer adjustable height, either via a telescopic system (from 40 to 150 cm depending on the model) or with interchangeable arms to suit high ceilings.
Wall mounts are particularly suitable for rooms with low ceilings or when a lateral installation is required. They are suitable for short-throw projectors or can be installed on the rear wall for long throws. Some hybrid models allow mounting either on the ceiling or on the wall.
Complete kits for simplified installation
A mounting kit consolidates all components in a single package: main mount with adjustable arms, mounting plate, telescopic or fixed arm, complete set of screws (generally M4 and M6), and sometimes an integrated cable management system. This all-in-one approach simplifies ordering and ensures compatibility between all components.
Universal kits work with most projectors on the market thanks to an adjustable mounting-hole pattern. Before purchasing, simply check the spacing of the mounting points on the underside of the projector and the maximum load supported by the chosen kit.
Customization and adjustments
Customization involves several parameters. Telescopic mounts allow you to precisely adjust the distance between the ceiling and the projector, which is essential for correctly aligning the device with the top of the projection screen. Tilt (generally from -15° to +30°) and rotation (up to 360° for some models) provide additional flexibility to compensate for architectural constraints.
For specific configurations, there are mounts with a tilting plate designed for sloped or attic ceilings. Professional models sometimes include micro-adjustment systems that allow alignment down to the millimeter.
Cable management and security
Many kits include a cable routing system within the central arm, allowing you to conceal the power and HDMI cables for a clean setup. Some professional mounts feature external raceways that remain accessible even after installation.
Security is also well covered: several models come with Kensington-style anti-theft fittings, and quick-release systems make it easy to temporarily remove the projector while keeping the whole setup secure with a key.
Choosing the right mount
Selection is based on a few technical criteria: the projector’s weight (to choose an appropriate load capacity), available ceiling height (to determine the required arm length), ceiling type (drywall, concrete slab, or suspended ceiling), and the need for adjustments depending on the room layout.
Kit mounts are suitable for both individuals setting up a home theater and professionals equipping meeting rooms, lecture halls, or event spaces. High-end models even offer motorized lifts that completely conceal the projector in the suspended ceiling when not in use.
