Multiroom, Multi-Zone, Integration Amplifiers
Multi-zone amplifiers centralize audio distribution to multiple rooms from a single device. Rack-mountable, they integrate multiple amplification channels and network players to stream distinct music feeds to each zone. Ideal for custom integration in residential or professional installations with in-wall wiring. Learn more
The centralized solution to sound the whole house
A multiroom multi-zone amplifier replaces stacking multiple single-zone amplifiers by offering a compact, professional solution. These devices combine in a single chassis the amplification for 3 to 16 independent audio zones. The 19” rack format (1U or 2U) makes installation easy in a tech cabinet or patch bay, where all the home’s speaker cables converge.
Each zone has independent control: volume, audio source, bass and treble settings. You can play different music in the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms simultaneously, or group several zones for synchronized listening. Recent models offer between 40W and 200W per channel depending on configuration (8 ohms, 4 ohms, or bridged mode), with hi-fi audio quality that preserves musical detail.
Modern connectivity and control
Today’s multi-zone amplifiers integrate comprehensive networking features. Ethernet connectivity (often with dual ports for redundancy) enables access to music streaming services (Spotify, Deezer, Tidal, Qobuz), Internet radio, and music libraries stored on NAS or network servers. Some models support high-resolution audio up to 192 kHz/24-bit with audiophile-grade ESS Sabre DACs.
Control is via mobile app (iOS/Android), offering an intuitive interface to manage all zones from a smartphone or tablet. The most advanced systems integrate with home automation protocols (IP control, 12V triggers, IR) and can communicate with other devices from the same brand (AV receivers, soundbars) to create a cohesive audio ecosystem throughout the home.
Professional installation and cabling
These amplifiers require pre-wired cabling, which makes them best suited to new builds or renovations where cables can be routed inside walls and ceilings. Euroblock screw terminal connectors simplify multiple connections and ensure secure wiring. Proper sizing of speaker cables remains crucial: a cross-section of 1.5 to 2.5 mm² is suitable for lengths up to 10 meters; beyond that, a 4 mm² cross-section is recommended to minimize signal loss.
Aux inputs and cut-in options make it easy to integrate external sources such as multi-CD players or paging systems. Pre-out outputs allow adding additional power amplifiers for large rooms or connecting active subwoofers. Ground loop hum suppression circuits—common in complex rack installations—ensure clean, noise-free sound.
Scalability and professional use
Most multiroom hubs allow system expansion. Several units can be linked to cover up to 32 zones with synchronized playback in groups of up to 20 zones. This scalability suits large residences as well as commercial installations (hotels, restaurants, shops) requiring professional audio management with differentiated ambiences by area.
The choice between a wired multizone system and a wireless multiroom solution depends on context: wired multizone amps excel in large installations demanding absolute reliability and consistent audio quality, while wireless systems are better suited to existing setups where in-wall work isn’t feasible.
