The C316 BEE V2 is the worthy successor to the iconic NAD 3020, an amplifier that revolutionized the audio industry over 30 years ago. Designed by Bjørn Erik Edvardsen, whose initials “BEE” are featured in the product name, this amplifier combines proven and innovative technologies to deliver an exceptional listening experience.
True to NAD’s philosophy, the C316 BEE V2 prioritizes sound quality over flashy aesthetics. Its minimalist and functional design conceals a meticulously crafted interior designed to maximize audio performance.
At the heart of the C316 BEE V2 lies an amplifier capable of delivering 2 x 40 W into 8 Ω in continuous operation. However, the true strength of this device lies in its ability to provide impressive dynamic power, reaching up to 2 x 100 W into 8 Ω and even 2 x 150 W into 2 Ω in musical operation.
This power reserve is made possible by NAD’s exclusive PowerDrive technology. The PowerDrive-S circuit allows the amplifier to handle significant current peaks, ensuring faithful reproduction of musical transients and excellent control over speakers, even the most demanding ones.
The C316 BEE V2 offers generous connectivity for an amplifier in its class. It features 5 gold-plated RCA inputs for your analog sources, along with a 3.5 mm mini-jack input on the front panel, ideal for quickly connecting a smartphone or portable player.
One of the RCA inputs is dedicated to a high-quality built-in phono preamp, allowing direct connection of a turntable equipped with a moving magnet (MM) cartridge. This feature is particularly valuable in an era where vinyl is enjoying a resurgence in popularity.
The NAD C316 BEE V2 stands out for its exceptional musicality. It delivers dynamic, energetic, and precise sound reproduction, faithfully rendering a wide variety of musical genres.
Tonal accuracy is achieved with natural and uncolored sound. The bass is firm and articulate, the midrange is rich and detailed, while the treble remains smooth and airy. The stereo imaging is expansive and well-defined, creating an immersive soundstage.
The C316 BEE V2’s sound signature is characterized by its infectious enthusiasm and sense of rhythm. It particularly excels in reproducing rhythmic music such as rock or electronic, but is equally adept with jazz or classical music.
The C316 BEE V2 incorporates several proprietary NAD technologies that contribute to its outstanding performance:
The streamlined front panel of the C316 BEE V2 offers simple and intuitive control. Source selection buttons, volume adjustment, and tone controls (which can be bypassed) are easily accessible. A remote control is also included for convenient operation from a distance.
The amplifier features a front-panel headphone output for high-quality personal listening. A main power switch located on the rear allows the device to remain in standby mode, reducing warm-up time needed to achieve optimal sound performance.
NAD has embraced an eco-friendly approach with the C316 BEE V2. Its standby power consumption is less than 1 watt, and its construction uses environmentally friendly materials, such as lead-free solder.
The build quality lives up to NAD’s reputation. The internal circuits are clean and well-organized, ensuring long-term reliability. The compact metal chassis and plastic front panel offer excellent value for money, focusing on sound performance rather than unnecessary aesthetics.
Dynamic Power (IHF):

Power Consumption:
Continuous power represents what the amplifier can deliver consistently, while dynamic power refers to its ability to handle power peaks over short durations. The C316 BEE V2 excels in dynamic power, which is crucial for faithfully reproducing music.
Thanks to its power reserve and PowerDrive technology, the C316 BEE V2 can drive a wide range of speakers, including models known to be challenging. However, for optimal performance, it is recommended to pair it with speakers of medium to high sensitivity.
Yes, the C316 BEE V2 includes a high-quality phono preamp for moving magnet (MM) cartridges. You can connect your turntable directly without needing an external phono preamp.
The C316 BEE V2 retains the sound qualities of its predecessor while offering subtle improvements. The main upgrade is the integration of a higher-quality phono stage and a slightly redesigned chassis for a more modern aesthetic.

For now, I am delighted with my purchase.
This amp sounds great and has power in reserve. I got it to complement a small Taga Harmony tube amp whose sound is warmer and more detailed but whose timbres are, I think, less true and harmonious depending on the music genres. The NAD, on the other hand, works well with all genres and I am rediscovering songs, including some old vinyls, that are magnificently interpreted with this amp.
In terms of reliability, I cannot say - only time will tell.
However, forget about the advantages of digital here, but I made this purchase knowing that, and personally it's what I was looking for with this second amp.
