In the HDMI range from American manufacturer Wireworld, the Sphere 48 represents a first step into the brand’s proprietary technologies. It succeeds the original Sphere, retaining the Uni-Path architecture while adopting the third generation of COMPOSILEX insulation. This cable carries video and audio signals up to 48 Gbit/s, the threshold required to fully exploit HDMI 2.1 features.
Uni-Path architecture and noise reduction
The Uni-Path geometry sets the Sphere 48 apart from conventionally designed HDMI cables. Unlike standard triple-shield constructions, this internal architecture positions the conductors in a way that minimizes electromagnetic interference and crosstalk between channels. Shielding is still present three layers protect the signal but the layout of the elements differs.
COMPOSILEX 3 insulation surrounds the oxygen-free copper (OFC) conductors. Developed by Wireworld to reduce triboelectric noise, this composite material acts on the micro-static discharges generated by contact between conductors and insulation, a phenomenon amplified by vibrations and signal flow. The brand claims that this third generation improves tonal purity and spatial separation compared to COMPOSILEX 2 used on the previous model.
Extended video compatibility
The Sphere 48 supports all HDMI 2.1 features. Resolution reaches 8K at 60 Hz or 4K at 120 Hz, with support for dynamic HDR (Dolby Vision, HDR10+). Variable refresh rate (VRR) and 48-bit color depth allow you to connect recent game consoles, graphics cards, or UHD Blu-ray players without bandwidth limitations. HDCP 2.3 protection ensures compatibility with copy-protected content.
Audio transmission and specialized connections
The eARC (Enhanced Audio Return Channel) allows uncompressed multichannel audio to be sent back from a TV to an amplifier or soundbar, eliminating the need for a second optical or coaxial cable. The Sphere 48 is also compatible with I2S links, a protocol used by certain high-end CD players and DACs to transfer audio data synchronously over separate lines.
Connectivity and flexibility
The plugs feature 24-karat gold plating on their contacts, a classic choice to limit oxidation and maintain stable conductivity over time. The cable itself has a flexible structure, making it easier to route behind furniture or along a cable duct. UL CL2 and FT4 certifications authorize in-wall installation, in compliance with North American fire safety standards.
Positioning within the Wireworld range
The Sphere 48 sits above the Radius 48, which uses a conventional architecture with the same COMPOSILEX 3 insulation. It is followed by the Silver Sphere 48 and the Platinum Starlight 48, whose conductors incorporate, respectively, a layer of silver and solid silver cores. This hierarchy allows you to scale your investment according to your system priorities: the Sphere 48 brings the benefits of Uni-Path geometry without resorting to the silver conductors of the higher-end models.
Available lengths range from 0.6 meters to 5 meters. All cables come with a lifetime warranty.
