Overview

The SA-10 is an exceptional CD and SACD player that also plays high-resolution music stored on computer-burned discs thanks to its state-of-the-art digital-to-analog converter function. From the completely new design of the player’s disc transport mechanism to a complete rethinking of how digital audio data is converted into analog signals, the SA-10 is designed from a blank slate. It is the result of meticulous research and development as well as numerous listening sessions in purpose-built auditoriums by Marantz. Our goal will always be to create the most technically elegant solution, but it will always be listening that has the final say. This is the heart of the Marantz philosophy: “because music matters”.

It all starts with the disc

Whether playing an SA-CD, a CD, or a data disc containing music, it is crucial that the player retrieves the information as accurately as possible: unlike a computer that reads a disc to save it, scanning the data multiple times which implies a delay. The player reads the data in real time, so the disc transport must be perfect the first time. Many CD and SACD players are equipped with DVD or “universal” drives similar to those in a computer, as it is increasingly difficult to obtain drives designed specifically for playing CDs and SACDs. Marantz’s solution? If you can’t buy it, just make it: the SA-10 is built around an all-new SACD-M3 transport mechanism designed solely to deliver the best possible performance when playing SA-CDs, CDs, and music stored on data-burned discs. This mechanism promises not only optimal sound quality with conventional CDs and SACDs, but also better playback of music files on DVD, allowing users to create their own high-resolution audio compilation discs using a computer’s DVD burner. The SA-10 can play FLAC files from 32 kHz to 192 kHz up to 24-bit resolution, DSD64 and DSD128 files, as well as ALAC (Apple Lossless), AIFF and MP3 files. This means that creating and playing high-resolution compilation discs is now as simple as it has always been to make such discs in CD quality.
