Eighteen and a half kilos, 126 centimetres long: placed on a TV cabinet, the AMBEO Max soundbar takes up its entire surface. The SB01-WM mount moves it from the cabinet to the wall, below the television or at the chosen height. Sennheiser designed it for this soundbar alone. It comes with a drilling template and the screw that joins the two pieces, leaving the installer to choose wall plugs suitable for their wall.
The SB01-WM is a metal mounting plate that accommodates only the AMBEO Max, designated SB01 by Sennheiser, hence the mount’s name. The soundbar sits on it and stays close to the wall, with minimal projection suited to a soundbar measuring 13.5 cm deep. Once the soundbar is in place, a supplied connecting screw secures it to the mount.
The mount is fixed: it holds the soundbar horizontally, with no tilt or swivel adjustment. The AMBEO Max directs part of its sound field towards the side walls and ceiling, and this choice of a fixed mount keeps it aligned with the room, facing the listener.
Wall screws and plugs are not supplied, as they depend on the wall material. A concrete or solid brick wall does not require the same fixings as a plasterboard partition, where it is best to aim for the studs or use metal expansion anchors. The wall and fixings must support the weight of the soundbar and its accessories with a comfortable safety margin, taking into account the leverage effect and any accidental pull on the power or HDMI cables.
The supplied drilling template indicates the position and diameter of the holes. Attach it to the wall, check that it is level, then mark the points before drilling. Installation requires two people: the soundbar must be handled by two people and placed on a flat, soft surface during preparations to avoid scratching its brushed aluminium. Sennheiser stipulates that installation must be carried out by a qualified person capable of assessing the wall’s strength and the risk of falling.
The AMBEO Max recreates a 5.1.4 system using its 13 speakers, including two full-range drivers aimed at the ceiling that create height effects through reflection. When wall-mounted, sufficient clearance must be left above the soundbar so that these two speakers are not obstructed by the bottom of the television or a shelf.
Moving from the cabinet to the wall also changes the soundbar’s immediate acoustic environment: no surface beneath it, a wall directly behind it. It is therefore useful to run room calibration again after installation, using the microphone supplied with the AMBEO Max, so that the soundbar recalculates its settings based on its new position.
Over time, checking the tightness of the screws and the condition of the mount and wall every three months is part of the brand’s instructions. The mount must not be installed in an environment subject to external vibrations.
No. The SB01-WM only fits the AMBEO Max. The other soundbars in the AMBEO range have different dimensions, and each has its own wall mount.
No, it is sold separately. The AMBEO Max box contains the soundbar, remote control, calibration microphone, an HDMI cable, power cable and manual, with no wall-mounting hardware.
The wall mount, drilling template, a quick start guide and a screw to attach the bar to the mount. Wall screws and plugs must be provided separately.
The AMBEO Max connects to the TV via an HDMI eARC cable and to the mains via its power cord. Cable trunking painted to match the wall or routing through the wall keeps the installation tidy. Allow a little slack: a cable that is too taut puts constant strain on the soundbar and its connectors.
Installation requires knowing how to identify the wall type, choosing fixings suitable for a load of nearly 19 kg, and handling the soundbar with two people without dropping it. Sennheiser entrusts this to a qualified person, and this is the safest approach if there is any doubt about the wall’s strength, particularly with a lightweight partition wall.
Below the TV, centered on the screen, is the most common position: dialogue then seems to come from the image. You just need to keep the space above the soundbar clear for its upward-firing speakers, which often means mounting the TV a little higher than it would sit on a cabinet.
Yes, provided you use suitable fixings. On plasterboard, it is best to screw into the partition’s metal or wooden studs. Otherwise, metal expansion anchors rated for heavy loads are essential, taking into account the leverage exerted by the bar.
