Overview

Culmination of the LS series, this mains power cord represents the new generation of the LS-2. It retains the overall architecture while adopting a multi-strand conductor structure. Every element—wiring, shielding, connectors, filter—has been developed in-house or manufactured to a custom specification, with no use of standard components. Assembly is entirely manual and requires several hours of work per unit.

From solid-core to multi-strand: a complete conductor redesign

The LS-2 EVO abandons the solid-core conductors of the MK3 version in favor of a multi-strand architecture. Nine conductors with a cross-section of 1.5 mm² make up the cable, each made of seven tightly twisted silver-plated OFC copper strands. The copper purity reaches 99.999% (5N), and the insulation is based on FEP Teflon.

This change in geometry offers several technical advantages. First, the active surface area of the conductor increases compared to a solid-core wire of the same cross-section, which promotes current flow at high frequencies. Second, the cable gains flexibility, making it easier to install behind equipment, without this flexibility compromising the overall mechanical rigidity. The twisted conductors also help to reduce inductance while maintaining a relatively high capacitance, a balance sought in this type of application.

Multilayer protection against interference

Around the conductors, a sealed copper shield provides full coverage against electromagnetic and radio frequency interference. This conductive envelope forms a continuous barrier, without gaps.

Between the shielding and the active conductors, a multilayer material damps mechanical vibrations induced by the electromagnetic fields circulating in the cable under load. These micro-oscillations, sometimes overlooked, can affect high-frequency electrical behavior. The outer jacket, woven from black polyolefin fibers, incorporates an anti-static braid that prevents charge buildup on the cable surface.

The nano-crystalline filter: integrated passive filtration

Specifically developed for the LS-2 EVO, a passive filter based on nano-crystalline alloys complements the shielding. Its position on the cable is the result of precise calculations aimed at optimizing its effectiveness. Housed in a solid aluminum enclosure, this device attenuates parasitic noise and residual oscillations at the cable’s output, without introducing losses in the main circuit.

This filtration technology, derived from research conducted by GigaWatt on its power conditioners, operates transparently: it does not affect the dynamics or responsiveness of the power supply, while reducing background noise transmitted to connected equipment.

Custom-manufactured connectors

The mains and IEC plugs used on the LS-2 EVO do not come from any third-party catalog. Their design follows an internal specification, from the geometry of the contacts to the choice of materials. The body of each connector is machined from solid aluminum, while the contacts are made of solid brass with rhodium plating. This coating offers low contact resistance and withstands a high number of connection/disconnection cycles without measurable performance degradation.

The connectors undergo a demagnetization treatment before assembly. The connections between conductors and contacts are made by mechanical clamping, with no tin soldering, an approach that minimizes junction impedance and guarantees long-term stability.

Implementation and compatibility

With a continuous current rating of 16 amperes, the LS-2 EVO can power devices with high energy demands: power amplifiers, monoblocks, power conditioners. It is also suitable for digital or analog sources, where its integrated filtration truly comes into its own.

The weight of 1.85 kg (boxed version) reflects the density of the materials used. The cable’s relative stiffness, inherent to its shielded, multilayer construction, means you should allow sufficient space behind components for installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the main difference between the LS-2 EVO and its predecessor, the LS-2 MK3?

The move from a solid-core structure to a multi-strand architecture is the major evolution. Each 1.5 mm² conductor is now made up of seven twisted strands, which increases the active copper surface area and improves cable flexibility, while retaining the other design characteristics inherited from the previous version.

What does the nano-crystalline filter provide compared to an unfiltered cable?

This passive filter attenuates parasitic noise and high-frequency oscillations present on the power grid, without affecting the main current or introducing losses. Its action complements that of the shielding, targeting interference that may have passed through the first protection barrier.

Is the LS-2 EVO suitable for low-consumption devices such as a CD player or DAC?

Yes, although its 16 A capacity and robust construction are primarily intended for current-hungry equipment. On digital or analog sources, the full shielding and passive filtration can help reduce audible background noise.

Are the connectors replaceable or interchangeable?

No, the connectors are an integral part of the cable and are factory-assembled by mechanical clamping. This design ensures minimal impedance and long-term reliability, but rules out any subsequent modification by the user.

What burn-in time should be expected?

GigaWatt does not provide an official duration. User feedback suggests optimal performance after a few dozen hours of operation, allowing the materials to reach a stable state.

Is the LS-2HC EVO version compatible with devices other than the PC-4 EVO+?

The HC (High Current) version has a termination designed for the PC-4 EVO+ conditioner, but there is nothing to prevent using it with other equipment that accepts the same type of connector. Its design remains identical to that of the standard LS-2 EVO.
