Overview

The PF-1e pack combines a six-outlet power strip with a mains cable from the PowerSync range, in a ready-to-use configuration. The set is based on the same filtering and protection principles developed for the brand’s more expensive models, while offering a compromise between performance and affordability.

A filtering architecture inherited from higher-end models

The PF-1e shares the same RLC filtering block as the PF-1 EVO, a higher-tier model in the range. This filter uses low-inductance metallized polyester capacitors combined with an Iron Powder (IP) core. All components are mounted with silver solder on a printed circuit board with generously dimensioned traces, which promotes current flow without bottlenecking.

The surge protection system combines plasma arresters and next-generation UltraMOV varistors. This cascade of devices reacts to voltage spikes without resorting to traditional wire or thermal fuses, whose impedance can limit current flow to connected equipment.

A metal chassis designed as a shield

The PF-1e housing is made entirely of metal and functions as a Faraday cage. This construction isolates the internal circuits from radio-frequency (RFI) and electromagnetic (EMI) interference present in the home environment, whether originating from household appliances, light dimmers, or computer equipment.

The overall weight (a little over 3 kg with the cable) reflects the mechanical rigidity of the structure. This mass helps reduce vibrations that could affect the internal electronic components. The dimensions of 420 × 75 × 57 mm allow installation on the floor, on a rack, or behind furniture without taking up excessive space.

Six reversible outlets and star-wired topology

The power strip features six 16 A Schuko sockets equipped with child safety shutters. Each outlet can accept plugs in both orientations (earth pin facing up or down), making it easier to connect equipment in tight spaces. The outlets use GigaWatt G-040 sockets with silver-plated contacts, manufactured in-house to the brand’s specifications.

The internal wiring uses a star geometry: each outlet is fed from a central point rather than in a daisy-chain. This layout is designed to provide a more stable and uniform voltage to each device, regardless of variations in power draw from neighboring equipment.

The PowerSync PLUS cable: thick conductors and full shielding

The included power cord belongs to the PowerSync range, whose design is inspired by the LC cables previously developed by GigaWatt. The conductors are made from OFHC C10100 copper (5N purity, i.e. 99.999%), subjected to an annealing process to achieve a homogeneous crystalline structure and improved conductivity.

Each of the three conductors has a cross-section of 2.5 mm² and consists of twelve strands with a diameter of 0.514 mm. This multi-strand configuration gives the cable a degree of flexibility despite its 15 mm outer diameter. The polyethylene (PE) insulation has a low dielectric constant, which limits parasitic capacitance effects.

A laminated aluminum foil shield envelopes all conductors over 100% of the surface, accompanied by a drain wire to route stray currents to ground. The outer jacket combines two layers of nylon braid and a fiberglass braid, ensuring both mechanical protection and attenuation of static charges.

Mechanical connections and proprietary plugs

The conductors of the PowerSync PLUS cable are mechanically fastened to the plugs without solder. This technique preserves the metallurgical integrity of the copper and avoids introducing solder alloys into the signal path. The GigaWatt G-010 (Schuko) and G-030 (IEC C15) plugs are manufactured to the brand’s specifications, with demagnetized contacts to reduce distortion related to residual magnetic effects.

The IEC inlet on the power strip accepts both C13 and C15 connectors, allowing the stock cable to be replaced with a different model if the user wishes to experiment with other configurations.

Power capacity and use cases

With a total output power of 3,500 W and a nominal current of 16 A, the pack can simultaneously power a complete hi-fi system including a digital source, preamplifier, power amplifier, and peripherals. The peak absorption capacity of 13,000 A allows it to handle sudden current demands generated by amplifiers during musical transients.

The configuration is also suitable for modest home cinema systems combining a player, A/V processor, and multichannel amplification. For larger systems or professional setups, GigaWatt offers the PF-1 EVO, PF-2 EVO, or conditioners from the PC series.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the PowerSync PLUS cable be replaced with another model from the GigaWatt range?

Yes, the IEC socket on the power strip accepts any C13 or C15-format mains cable. The PowerSync ULTRA or LC-2 EVO models can replace the original cable if you want to experiment with a higher-end level.

Is there a burn-in period before reaching optimal performance?

GigaWatt generally recommends several dozen hours of use for the components to reach a stable operating state. Some users report noticeable changes up to 50 or even 100 hours of operation.

Can a high-power amplifier be plugged directly into the PF-1e?

The power strip supports up to 16 A continuous and 13,000 A peak, which covers most domestic hi-fi amplifiers. For very powerful mono blocks or professional amplifiers, a dedicated line or a conditioner from the PC series will be more appropriate.

Does the PF-1e protect against lightning?

The protection system based on plasma arresters and UltraMOV varistors absorbs brief surges and voltage spikes. However, no device of this type can guarantee absolute protection against a direct lightning strike on the electrical installation.

What is the main difference compared with the PF-1 EVO?

The PF-1 EVO features solid copper distribution rails, a status LED, and G-040 sockets with demagnetized, cryogenically treated silver-plated contacts. The RLC filter and surge protection remain identical on both models.

Is the pack suitable for video systems (TV, projector)?

Yes, the six outlets can power both audio and video components. The RFI/EMI filtering can help reduce visual artifacts related to interference in certain setups.

Does the power strip have a master switch?

No, the PF-1e does not have a switch. Power is cut off by unplugging the mains cable or via an upstream switch on the electrical installation.
