Elegant Design Without Compromise

The body of the MC Xpression is made using an additive manufacturing process called SLM (Selective Laser Melting), an advanced technology already used for Ortofon’s MC A90 and SPU 90th Anniversary cartridges. Each cartridge body is thus aesthetically unique, potentially featuring slight dimples or visible lines upon close inspection. This original and refined design is the result of a commitment to uncompromising quality and performance.

An Optimized Generator for Stunning Dynamics

The generator system of the MC Xpression builds on developments made for the MC A90 and MC Windfeld cartridges. It uses an extremely powerful and compact neodymium magnet, allowing the generator to be lighter and smaller. A Field Stabilizing Element (FSE) is strategically placed inside the magnet to ensure a stable magnetic field regardless of armature movements. This technology improves channel separation while minimizing dynamic distortion and intermodulation, offering exceptional dynamics and great clarity.

A Replicant 100 Diamond on a Boron Cantilever for Ultra-Precise Playback

The MC Xpression is equipped with an ultra-thin and extra-polished version of the Ortofon Replicant 100 diamond, mounted on a boron cantilever. This very small and low-mass diamond has an extraordinarily large vertical contact surface despite its minimal curvature radius. Positioned at a vertical angle of 23°, it can read the micro-grooves of vinyl records with unmatched precision. The boron cantilever, an extremely rigid and lightweight material, ensures lossless transmission of the diamond’s movements.

99.999999% Pure Copper Coils for a Perfect Signal

The coils of the MC Xpression are made from 99.999999% pure single-crystal OFC copper (6NX). This extremely pure material allows for signal transmission without any loss between the diamond and the output terminals. The internal wiring connecting the generator to the standard connector is made of very high purity silver, ensuring optimal electrical connection.

Perfect Damping Across the Entire Frequency Range

The MC Xpression benefits from Ortofon’s patented WRD (Wide Range Damping) system. A small platinum disc is sandwiched between two rubber absorbers with different properties. This device not only ensures exceptional groove tracking but also creates ideal damping across the entire frequency spectrum. Distortion and resonance are thus virtually eliminated.

Extended Compatibility

Thanks to its dimensions identical to those of an SPU cartridge, the MC Xpression can easily be installed on tonearms designed for this standard without requiring additional adjustment. Its length also allows it to perfectly fit SME-type arms (SME, Grace, Fidelity Research, SAEC, Micro Seiki). Moreover, its low output impedance makes it compatible with most phono preamplifiers on the market.
