The 2M MONO 78 is a true mono cartridge specifically designed for playing 78 RPM vinyl records. It is equipped with a spherical diamond stylus with a wider tip profile perfectly suited for these records, which have a wider groove than microgroove records. Its improved motor offers a high level of sound precision. The cartridge body is made of Hopelex, a material that ensures high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances.

The 2M MONO 78 uses a “strapped” output that delivers the same signal to both sets of pins. This eliminates the need for specific mono playback equipment, allowing for true monophonic reproduction on any stereo playback system.

Advantages of Using a Mono Cartridge

If you play a mono record with a stereo cartridge, you won’t get exactly the same signal in both channels due to imperfections such as crosstalk, noise, phase errors, and distortions. This difference between channels results in an unstable and partially blurred sound image. A mono switch can improve this to some extent.

When playing the same record with a mono cartridge like the 2M MONO 78, these issues disappear because the cartridge produces only one signal, which is then sent to both channels. This results in a much more stable and full sound image.

Another significant advantage is the absence of response to vertical movements. A mono cartridge is insensitive to the pinching effect that occurs when the stylus is pushed upward in very narrow grooves. Additionally, the response to dust and wear is significantly reduced because the vertical component is not reproduced. Ultimately, this results in a much cleaner and quieter reproduction of the mono record, which a simple mono switch cannot achieve.
