Samsung TQ77S90D-BF

Samsung TQ77S90D-BF 4K OLED TV

The Samsung TQ77S90D-BF is a high-end 77-inch (195 cm diagonal) Ultra HD 4K OLED TV set to be released in 2024. It is part of Samsung’s new S90D series, positioned just below the premium S95D series. This model stands out with its next-generation OLED panel, ultra-powerful AI-optimized processor, minimalist design, and comprehensive connectivity.

Picture Quality

OLED Display Technology

The Samsung TQ77S90D-BF features a 77-inch OLED (Organic Light-Emitting Diode) panel offering Ultra HD 4K resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels. Each pixel is self-emissive, meaning it generates its own light, allowing for perfect blacks, intense colors, and very wide viewing angles (178° horizontal and vertical).

The OLED technology used is next-generation. Depending on sources, it could either be a QD-OLED (Quantum Dot OLED) panel manufactured by Samsung Display or a W-OLED (White OLED) panel supplied by LG Display. Samsung only refers to it as “Samsung OLED” without specifying the exact origin of the panel.

NQ4 AI Gen2 Processor with AI Optimizations

The power of the TQ77S90D-BF lies in the 2nd generation NQ4 AI processor, a chip dedicated to image processing that leverages artificial intelligence and machine learning. Equipped with 20 neural networks, this processor analyzes and optimizes each image in real-time to deliver stunning visual quality.

AI-enabled optimizations include:

• 4K upscaling that converts lower-definition content to near-native 4K quality
• Brightness and contrast optimization at the pixel level to reveal details, even in dark or very bright areas
• Motion enhancement for ultra-smooth images
• Automatic adjustment of settings (picture mode, brightness, sound…) based on content type

Extended HDR Compatibility

Samsung’s OLED HDR+ technology promises a high peak brightness (estimated at over 1500 nits) and infinite contrast for a strikingly realistic HDR experience, with perfectly visible details in very bright or very dark areas.

Other Image Enhancement Technologies

In addition to the processor and HDR compatibility, the TQ77S90D-BF incorporates a range of proprietary technologies:

• Real Depth Enhancer: analyzes image depth to enhance the sense of relief and depth
• Contrast Enhancer: optimizes contrast to highlight details
• AI Motion Enhancer: smooths out motion
• Pantone Validated and Pantone SkinTone Validated: ensures accurate color reproduction, especially skin tones

Design and Build

“Infinity” Minimalist Design

The Samsung S90D features the “Infinity” design characterized by ultra-thin bezels on all four sides, creating the impression of a limitless image. The screen is only a few millimeters thick thanks to the “LaserSlim” design.

Central Stand and Wall Mount

The television comes with a sleek central metal stand that ensures perfect stability while freeing up space under the screen to place a soundbar, for example. For wall mounting, the F-TQ77S90D-BF is compatible with VESA 400 x 300 standard mounts.

Premium Finish

The finish is particularly refined with a matte screen that limits reflections and a brushed metal back with a fingerprint-resistant coating. Cables can be concealed within the stand for a clean installation.

Gaming Features

With its 100/120 Hz panel, image processing up to 144 Hz, HDMI 2.1 48 Gbps and VRR (AMD FreeSync Premium Pro) compatibility, and a response time under 10 ms, the Samsung S90D is designed for next-gen console (PS5, Xbox Series X) and PC gaming.

It includes numerous gaming features:

• Automatic Game Mode (auto-detection of consoles, low latency mode)
• Game Bar (quick settings, fps display, etc.)
• Game Motion Plus (enhanced smoothness)
• Super UltraWide GameView (21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios)
• Mini Map Zoom (zoom on game mini-maps)
• Gaming Hub (access to cloud gaming services)

Smart TV Functions

Tizen System and Voice Control

The TQ77S90D-BF runs on Tizen OS, Samsung’s proprietary operating system. This Smart TV provides access to multiple apps, voice assistants Bixby, Alexa, and Google Assistant, as well as SmartThings home automation features.

The included remote control has a microphone for voice control of the TV. It is also possible to use the “Far-Field Voice Interaction” feature for hands-free commands.

Samsung TV Plus, Gaming Hub, and Apps

Tizen provides access to numerous streaming services and apps, including the free Samsung TV Plus service, which offers thematic linear channels and on-demand content.

The Samsung Gaming Hub allows for cloud gaming without a console. On the app side, you’ll find essentials like Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Molotov, myCanal, YouTube, Spotify, etc.

Multi View and Wireless Connectivity

The Multi View function allows you to display multiple video sources simultaneously on the screen, such as a TV program and a stream from a smartphone. The TQ77S90D-BF is also compatible with Tap View (mirror a mobile device by simply tapping the TV) and Apple AirPlay 2.
