Hurricane 72V DBS Mains Cable Dedicated to Audio-Video Sources

AudioQuest’s Hurricane 72V DBS mains power cable is a high-end product designed to optimize the performance of audio systems. This cable, part of AudioQuest’s Storm series, stands out for its ability to provide stable, clean electrical power, essential for high-fidelity audio components. In this presentation, we will explore the technical features of the Hurricane 72V DBS, its advantages over previous models, and answer frequently asked questions.

Technical Features of the Hurricane 72V DBS

The Hurricane 72V DBS cable is designed specifically for constant-current components. It uses Perfect-Surface Copper+ (PSC+) conductors, known for their exceptional purity and their ability to reduce distortions caused by strand interactions. This design ensures uncompressed current transmission and minimizes energy losses.

One of Hurricane’s major innovations is the 72-volt Dielectric-Bias System (DBS). This system creates a stable electrostatic field that saturates and polarizes the cable insulation, thereby reducing distortion and improving sonic clarity. DBS is paired with Ground Noise Dissipation technology, which effectively eliminates unwanted radio-frequency interference.

Advantages Compared with Previous Models

Compared with previous models such as the Tornado High-Current, the Hurricane 72V DBS incorporates significant improvements. PSC+ conductors provide superior conductivity, resulting in cleaner, more stable power for audio systems. In addition, the 72-volt DBS system ensures more effective distortion reduction and minimal background noise.

The directional design of the conductors also makes it possible to control RF impedance, ensuring that noise is drained away from sensitive circuits. These improvements result in a wider soundstage, increased dynamics, and exceptional audio clarity.

Optimized Use for Source Components

The Hurricane 72V DBS is particularly optimized for source components such as CD players, DACs, and preamplifiers. It is not recommended for devices requiring high RMS current capacity, such as power amplifiers or powered subwoofers. For these applications, AudioQuest offers high-current cables such as the Hurricane High-Current.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the battery life of the DBS system?

The batteries in the DBS system have a lifespan of approximately 10 years. A test button on the housing allows you to check their status: if the LED lights up green, everything is in order.

Can the Hurricane cable be used with a power conditioner?

No, the Hurricane Source model is not designed for use with power conditioners or other devices requiring high RMS current. For these applications, it is best to opt for a high-current cable.

How does the Ground Noise Dissipation system improve sound quality?

Ground Noise Dissipation technology significantly reduces distortions caused by RF noise induced in AC ground wires. This results in broadband noise dissipation, thereby improving overall sound quality.
