Solid Core Conductors with PSC+ Copper

“Perfect-Surface Copper+” (PSC+) features an astonishingly smooth and pure surface. An exclusive metal processing technology protects the conductor’s surface at every stage of drawing and manufacturing. When ultra-pure, low-oxide copper is kept as malleable, pure, and smooth as possible, it becomes a PSC+ conductor with extraordinarily low distortion. PSC+ is made by applying the same exceptional technology to ultra-pure copper. The resulting sound quality is even more focused and simply less distracting. For over 30 years, AudioQuest has been a pioneer in using superior-quality metals, but we were ourselves surprised by the huge leap in performance made possible by Perfect Surface technology. PSC+ simply outperforms all copper metals we’ve used in the past, regardless of price. Big Sur exclusively uses solid core conductors. The electrical and magnetic interactions between strands in a conventional cable are the primary source of distortion, often resulting in somewhat harsh and muddy sound. Solid core conductors play a crucial role in achieving Big Sur’s very clean sound.

Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation

Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is part of an imperfect circuit. Cable insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Big Sur uses air-filled foamed-polyethylene insulation on both conductors because air absorbs almost no energy, and polyethylene is a low-loss material with no significant distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in foamed PE, the insulation causes much less of the blurring effect found in many other materials.

Asymmetrical Double-Balanced Geometry

Specifically designed for single-ended applications, asymmetrical double-balanced geometry offers a relatively low impedance to ground for a richer and more dynamic experience. While many single-ended cable designs use the same conductor for both ground and shielding, double-balanced geometry separates the two for a cleaner and quieter result.

Cold-Welded, Gold-Plated Pure Purple Copper Connectors

The plug design allows for a solder-free connection, which is a common source of distortion. Since the ground shells are stamped rather than machined, the metal can be chosen for its low distortion properties rather than its machinability.
