This high-end DAC delivers exceptional performance with a signal-to-noise ratio reaching up to -131 dB (XLR outputs) and total harmonic distortion below 0.0002%. To ensure perfect timing accuracy, Matrix Audio has integrated femtosecond-grade Crystek CCHD-950 clocks, drastically reducing digital jitter that can affect sound quality.

The X2’s internal architecture has been meticulously designed. The NXP i.MX 6Quad processor with four Cortex-A9 cores clocked at 1.2 GHz ensures smooth processing of even the most complex audio data. Unlike many multifunction devices where this section is often overlooked, Matrix Audio has designed a true reference amplifier. Composed of eight independent amplification units (four per channel), connected in parallel pairs, it delivers high current and significant power while keeping distortion and noise at extremely low levels.

This design allows the X2 to easily drive even the most demanding headphones. The balanced 4.4 mm output can deliver up to 2600 mW at 33 ohms and 580 mW at 600 ohms, while the unbalanced 6.35 mm output provides 1600 mW at 33 ohms and 150 mW at 600 ohms. These figures place the X2 on par with the best dedicated headphone amplifiers on the market.

A High-Quality Preamplifier

The Matrix Element X2 also features a high-quality analog preamplifier, capable of providing an additional +10 dB of gain. When this function is activated, the outputs can deliver signals up to 15.8 Vrms (XLR outputs), an exceptionally high value that allows you to connect the X2 directly to power amplifiers without loss of dynamics.
