Block CVR-200 AV silver

The Block CVR-200 AV combines a 7.1 amplifier, Blu-ray player, network streamer, and radio tuner, offering an elegant alternative to traditional stacks of devices. With its seven amplification channels and fully aluminum chassis, it targets users seeking easy installation and high build quality.

Design and German Build Quality

The CVR-200 AV features a fully aluminum chassis that goes beyond mere aesthetics. This metal construction improves heat dissipation, a crucial aspect for a device that integrates both an amplifier and an optical player in a compact format. Its dimensions of 430 × 121.5 × 375 mm allow for easy integration into standard TV furniture, while its 11 kg weight attests to the unit’s solidity.

The finish comes in two options: diamond silver or sapphire black, with a logo engraved on the top plate. Gold-plated connectors on the rear and a color display on the front complete a refined presentation that lives up to the German manufacturer’s reputation. This attention to detail is also evident in the supplied system remote control and the dedicated mobile app.

Audio Performance and Multichannel Amplification

The amplification delivers 100 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms, totaling 700 watts for a full 7.1 setup. This power comes with harmonic distortion below 0.0007% at 1 watt and a signal-to-noise ratio above 88 dB, ensuring precise sound reproduction. The frequency response ranges from 10 Hz to 26 kHz, more than covering the audible spectrum.

Built-in Dolby Digital and DTS decoders handle multichannel soundtracks, while the dedicated subwoofer output enables a true 7.1 configuration. Eight DSP equalization modes, accessible via a front button, offer presets tailored to different content and listening preferences. This audio versatility satisfies both stereo music listening and cinematic playback.

Integrated Home Theater Features

The built-in Blu-ray player is one of the CVR-200 AV’s major assets, eliminating the need for a separate device. Compatible with Blu-ray, DVD, and CD, it also handles high-definition audio formats found on discs. Three HDMI inputs accommodate game consoles, TV boxes, or other video sources, while the HDMI output with ARC simplifies TV connection.

The HDMI CEC function allows centralized control via the TV remote, reducing the number of remotes needed. This system integration makes daily use easier, especially appreciated by less tech-savvy users. The lack of UHD Blu-ray support may be surprising at this price point, but it aligns with a focus on versatility rather than chasing specifications.

Streaming and Network Connectivity

Network connectivity relies exclusively on dual-band Wi-Fi (2.4 and 5 GHz), a surprising choice for a device in this range. This limitation can be problematic in crowded network environments or when far from the router. Once connected, the device accesses major services: Spotify Connect, Deezer, as well as UPnP and DLNA protocols for home servers.

Bidirectional Bluetooth is a standout feature: it receives music from smartphones and tablets, but can also transmit to Bluetooth headphones. This versatility meets modern needs, allowing for nighttime listening without disturbing others. Triple-format radio (FM, DAB+, Internet) with over 30,000 global stations rounds out the content offering.

Comprehensive Sources and Connectivity

Analog connectivity emphasizes versatility with two auxiliary inputs, an integrated MM phono input for turntables, and a front line-in. The latter makes it easy to temporarily connect portable devices. The built-in phono input eliminates the need for a separate preamp, a notable plus for vinyl enthusiasts.

On the digital side, three optical inputs and one coaxial input accommodate high-definition audio sources. Two USB ports (one front for quick access, one rear for permanent installation) support a wide range of formats, from standard MP3 to high-resolution FLAC. This variety of connections allows integration of virtually any existing audio or video source.

Interface and Everyday Usability

The front color display shows essential information: radio station, music title, or album cover in streaming mode. This visual interface improves usability compared to basic displays. Three control methods coexist: front panel buttons, the supplied remote, and the UNDOK mobile app.

The smartphone app centralizes all network functions: streaming, Internet radio, audio settings. This modern approach appeals to users accustomed to mobile control, while the physical remote reassures more traditional users. The learning function allows the remote to be programmed to control other devices.

Evolution from the Original CVR-200

The CVR-200 AV significantly expands the capabilities of the original CVR-200, which was limited to stereo amplification. This evolution meets the growing demand for complete home theater solutions, while retaining the Hi-Fi qualities of the initial model. The architecture remains the same: same chassis, same construction philosophy, but with amplification extended to seven channels.

This lineage ensures consistency within the Block range, allowing owners of the stereo model to naturally upgrade to multichannel. Streaming, radio, and optical playback features remain identical, ensuring a smooth transition.
