NorStone Vinyl LP Stand
Overview
The Vinyl LP Stand by Norstone Design is a compact vertical storage unit that combines two browsing modes in a single structure. Standing 1.02 meters tall, it holds around 160 12” records split into two compartments of 80 records each: an upper record-store-style section with a glass front and display system, and a more traditional lower vertical storage. This dual approach lets you alternate between showcasing and dense storage.
Dual-function design
The upper compartment uses the record-store bin concept, offering intuitive browsing of vinyl spines. The glass front protects the sleeves while maintaining full visibility of your collection. The integrated display system lets you highlight a selected sleeve, creating a focal point that personalizes the unit and signals the album currently playing—or simply the one you want to showcase.
The lower compartment prioritizes traditional vertical storage, maximizing density. This section holds records you browse less frequently or that complement your collection without needing constant exposure. Each compartment supports up to 30 kg, more than enough to store 80 standard LPs with comfortable headroom for heavyweight pressings or box sets.
This two-part layout eliminates the need to choose between a neat presentation and storage capacity. The Stand reconciles both approaches in a compact footprint (345 × 345 mm), leveraging vertical height rather than floor space.
Materials and French manufacturing
The black metal frame ensures overall rigidity, while the natural bamboo shelves provide both visual warmth and mechanical performance. Bamboo offers greater compressive strength than many traditional hardwoods. Its dense fibrous structure gives it excellent long-term stability, even under constant load.
Bamboo reaches maturity in about five years, versus several decades for conventional wood species. This rapid regeneration, combined with its ability to regrow after harvesting without replanting, makes it a relevant material for sustainable production. It also has natural resistance to moisture and insects.
The contrast between the black metal and the natural tones of bamboo creates a contemporary visual signature. The bamboo finish preserves the material’s visible grain, revealing color variations that give each unit its own character. The glass front of the upper compartment adds a touch of lightness while physically protecting the displayed sleeves.
Stability and spatial integration
A standard 12” LP weighs around 120 to 180 grams. When you fill a compartment with 80 records, you approach a 15 kg load. Each shelf supports up to 30 kg, providing a comfortable safety margin. The metal structure distributes weight evenly across the full height, avoiding the warping seen with solid wood shelves under prolonged load.
The unit’s weight (8 kg when empty) provides natural ballast that limits the risk of tipping, even when removing records from the upper compartment. The small footprint allows you to place the Stand in room corners, directly next to a turntable, or even in tight spaces like a studio or a dedicated listening nook.
Assembly and installation
The Vinyl LP Stand ships flat-packed with all hardware, assembly instructions, and required tools. The net weight of 8 kg makes handling manageable for one person. Assembly follows a clear logic where the metal frame forms the skeleton onto which the bamboo shelves and the glass front of the upper compartment are attached.
The shipping carton (425 × 760 × 105 mm, 9.1 kg) facilitates delivery even in buildings without elevators. Once assembled, the Stand has a minimal footprint compared to its real storage capacity of 160 records.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the display system in the upper compartment work?
The display system lets you place a record sleeve at the front of the upper compartment, behind the glass panel. This presentation highlights the artwork of your favorite album, the one you’re currently playing, or simply the one you want to feature. The sleeve remains protected by the glass while fully visible, creating a decorative element that evolves with your mood.
What is the practical difference between the two compartments?
The upper compartment, with its record-store orientation and glass front, makes quick flipping through your collection easy. It’s ideal for albums you play regularly or want within easy reach. The lower compartment, with its denser vertical storage, is better suited to back-catalog titles or records you consult less often. This separation enables a natural organization of your collection.
Can the positions of the two compartments be reversed during assembly?
The unit is designed so that the compartment with the glass front is positioned at the top to optimize visibility and access to the featured album. The vertical storage naturally sits at the bottom. This fixed configuration ensures the visual balance and mechanical stability of the whole. Changing this layout could compromise the unit’s sturdiness.
Can the Stand accommodate formats other than 12" LPs?
The 345 mm depth and compartment height are optimized for standard 12” LPs. You can also store 7” records, though the space is slightly oversized for that format. 10” shellac boxes or thick box sets also fit. Some users also repurpose a compartment to store music books, specialist magazines, or small audio gear.
