Overview

Perlisten’s D3is turns architectural constraints into acoustic opportunities. This sophisticated technical solution enables professional-grade bass reproduction in the most demanding spaces, without compromising aesthetics or living space.

Aluminum design in the service of versatility

The D3is’s extruded aluminum enclosure features a remarkably slim profile at just 146.1 mm deep, allowing integration into standard 2x6 stud walls. This slimness conceals three 215 mm carbon-fiber drivers arranged vertically to maximize radiating surface while keeping a minimal lateral footprint of 355.6 mm.

Aluminum provides structural rigidity that eliminates unwanted resonances and optimal thermal dissipation—critical for closed in-wall installations. The proprietary mounting system with integrated isolation brackets mechanically decouples the subwoofer from the wall structure, drastically reducing vibration transmission to adjacent partitions. This solution allows you to fully exploit dynamic capabilities without turning the wall into a secondary radiating surface.

Acoustic architecture and digital processing

The sealed enclosure (acoustic suspension) prioritizes precision and fast transient response. Carbon-fiber cones provide an optimal stiffness-to-mass ratio, with a linear excursion of ±16.9 mm per driver. The cumulative radiating surface equals that of a 380 mm driver, but with the advantage of lower moving mass and better thermal dissipation.

A 32-bit ARM Cortex M4 processor supervises all parameters in real time, while the Texas Instruments DSP engine operates at 48-bit. The 10-band parametric EQ enables precise tuning to the acoustic characteristics of each installation. Three THX modes—Standard (20–290 Hz), Boost for large rooms (17–290 Hz), and Cut for small rooms (31–290 Hz)—automatically optimize the response to the listening environment.

External amplification: power and control

The external 1500-watt RMS amplifier, housed in a compact 2U rack chassis, contains the system intelligence. This physical separation maintains minimal depth for the enclosure while removing heat sources near the drivers. The 2.8-inch color touch LCD provides an intuitive interface for accessing advanced functions.

Auto turn-on works via 12V trigger or signal sensing on the XLR/RCA inputs, easing integration into complex systems. The 89.5 dB sensitivity for 150 mV ensures universal compatibility with preamplifiers and home theater processors.

Professional connectivity and system integration

Balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA inputs allow integration into any audio system. Unbuffered outputs make it easy to daisy-chain multiple subs. The AES/2 digital output sets the D3is apart, enabling direct integration into fully digital signal chains without additional conversion.

The iOS/Android mobile app offers full control from the listening position, providing access to all parameters and the ability to save three user presets for different content types or configurations.

Positioning and relationship to the D8is

The D3is positions itself as the “younger sibling” of the D8is in the Perlisten range. While the D8is, with its eight push-pull drivers and 3000 watts, represents a no-compromise approach, the D3is favors compactness and ease of installation while preserving the brand’s sonic DNA.

The D3is compensates for the absence of a push-pull configuration with its sophisticated isolation system and reduced mass. This specialization makes it ideal for discreet integrations where every centimeter counts, exclusively for on-wall or in-wall mounting—unlike the D8is, which can also operate as a standalone unit.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between on-wall mounting and in-wall installation for the D3is?

On-wall mounting uses the supplied brackets to secure the subwoofer to the wall surface, keeping it visible while minimizing floor footprint. In-wall installation fully integrates the sub into the wall cavity, leaving only the optional grille visible. In-wall mounting provides a 6 dB gain in low frequencies thanks to direct coupling with the wall structure, but requires a more complex installation with access to wall cavities.

How does the mobile app improve everyday use?

The app streamlines system calibration and operation by enabling adjustments from the listening position. It offers full visual access to the 10-band parametric EQ, makes it easy to create and save custom presets, and lets you switch instantly between configurations. The graphical interface exposes complex parameters like variable phase or filter slopes, simplifying acoustic optimization even for less technical users.

Can multiple D3is units be used in the same installation?

The D3is architecture facilitates multi-sub configurations thanks to unbuffered outputs that allow daisy-chaining. The integrated DSP provides essential time and phase alignment tools to optimize interaction between multiple units. Typical installations use two D3is in a stereo configuration for music systems, or four units to create a distributed bass network in ambitious home theater setups.

What is the maximum recommended area for a single D3is?

A single D3is can effectively cover spaces up to 40 square meters in a home theater configuration, or 60 square meters for music use where SPL demands are lower. These recommendations assume standard ceiling heights of 2.5 to 3 meters and reasonably controlled acoustics. For larger spaces or THX reference levels, multiple units are needed to maintain Perlisten’s characteristic clarity and dynamic impact.
