Clic Classic Series Model 242 large
Overview
The Clic Model 242 Large offers two meters of length and 55 centimeters of depth to accommodate a complete hi-fi setup. This handcrafted Danish cabinet features three modular compartments that conceal cables, amplifiers, and sources, while sound passes through the acoustic fabric doors or open compartments depending on your configuration choices.
Two meters wide, three identical compartments
The Model 242 Large measures 202 centimeters wide and 36.6 centimeters high. Total depth is 55 centimeters, making it the deepest model in the Classic Series. This generous depth accommodates bulky amplifiers, network players with separate external power supplies, or any other equipment that requires space.
The cabinet is divided into three strictly identical compartments. Each measures 64.8 centimeters wide and 32.2 centimeters high inside when left open. If you add a door, the internal depth changes from 48.9 to 47.3 centimeters to make room for the downward-opening mechanism.
Each compartment includes a 16-millimeter-thick shelf, adjustable to three different positions. You can order additional shelves if you want to divide the vertical space. Note that the Model 242 Large does not accept drawers, unlike some other models in the range that offer this option in their narrower compartments.
A structure without a fixed back panel
The most notable technical feature of the Model 242 Large lies in its construction system. Clic uses a technique that achieves a rigid frame without a fixed back panel. This approach gives the cabinet the ability to support heavy loads, whether you place it on the floor on feet or mount it on the wall.
The back plates are mounted with magnets and can be removed in seconds. They are positioned 5 centimeters from the back of the cabinet, creating a cable space that’s invisible from the outside. You can order these plates with or without cable pass-through holes depending on your specific needs.
The top panel includes a centered cable pass-through, while the bottom panel has three. You can request additional pass-throughs or order the cabinet without any holes if your setup allows. Once the cables are in place, aluminum or brass covers—available in silver, black, or brass—conceal the openings while displaying a discreetly engraved Clic logo.
Water-based paint applied after assembly
All Clic cabinets are assembled first, then hand-painted. This reversed sequence compared to industrial methods ensures crisp edges and perfectly closed joints. The paint used is water-based, durable and hard-wearing while remaining environmentally friendly.
Lacquered finishes come in white, black, gray, and light gray. Wood veneers are available in natural oak or walnut. The acoustic fabric doors come in ten colors: Coal, Frost, Coffee, Black, Dark Blue, Concrete, Latte, Basalt Grey, White, and Olive Green. This fabric lets sound pass through without noticeable alteration while hiding the contents of the compartment.
Manufacturing is entirely Danish. Materials come from local suppliers selected by Clic. Each cabinet undergoes a complete quality check before shipping. This geographical proximity between the different players in the production chain facilitates adjustments and maintains a consistent level of finish.
Aluminum feet or wall mounting
The Model 242 Large can be placed on the floor on Clic Alu Stands, machined from a single block of aluminum. These feet include height adjustments to compensate for floor irregularities and ensure cabinet stability. They are available in silver or black finishes.
Alternatively, you can mount the cabinet on the wall with the Clic Wall Bracket. This system allows flush mounting against the wall while offering level and depth adjustments. The bracket ensures a secure installation even for a cabinet loaded with heavy equipment.
Both installation options are equal from an acoustic standpoint. The choice mainly depends on your room layout and aesthetic preferences. Floor mounting makes future changes to your setup easier, while wall mounting frees up floor space and creates a visually lighter, floating line.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s the difference between the Model 242 and the Model 242 Large?
The standard Model 242 offers three compartments, each 48.2 centimeters wide. The Model 242 Large widens these compartments to 64.8 centimeters. Both models share the same height (36.6 cm) and depth (55 cm), but the Large version provides more horizontal space in each compartment to accommodate wider equipment or allow more airflow.
Can multiple Clic cabinets be combined?
Yes, all Clic models can be stacked or aligned thanks to magnetic feet that ensure overall stability. You can stack a Model 242 Large with other models of the same width (202 cm) but different depths depending on your needs. This modularity allows your setup to evolve over time without buying a whole new cabinet.
Do the acoustic fabric doors really affect the sound?
The fabric used by Clic was chosen for its acoustic transparency. In practice, placing speakers behind these doors does not introduce audible degradation. Of course, if you use very directional speakers or extremely detailed ribbon tweeters, you might prefer to leave the compartment open. But for the majority of setups, the fabric doors work without compromise.
Can the cabinet really support the weight of heavy amplifiers?
Clic’s construction without a fixed back panel gives the cabinet high structural rigidity. The 16-millimeter-thick shelves have no trouble supporting amplifiers weighing several tens of kilos. Many users stack power amplifiers, preamplifiers, and heavy sources in the same compartment without noticing any sagging. The distribution of weight across three separate compartments also contributes to overall stability.
