Unnu Classic Series Model 1540
Overview
The Unnu Model 1540 is an audio-video unit from the Classic range featuring four modular compartments across a width of more than two meters. Designed in Denmark, it allows you to organize a complete hi-fi or home theater setup. Each compartment can be configured independently: open, closed with a wooden door, or fitted with an acoustically transparent fabric door, depending on your needs.
A robust construction designed with attention to detail
The Model 1540 is built on a 16 mm lacquered MDF structure, a dense and stable material that provides an excellent base for supporting heavy audio-video equipment. What truly sets Unnu’s construction apart are the four specially designed metal corners that reinforce each compartment at the back of the unit. These reinforcements deliver remarkable structural rigidity without relying on a fixed back panel, which opens up crucial possibilities for airflow and cable routing.
The available finishes reflect careful attention to seamless integration in different interiors: white or black polyurethane lacquer for a contemporary, understated look, or oak and walnut veneer for those who prefer the natural warmth of wood. The polyurethane lacquer stands out for its scratch resistance and long-term color stability—an important point for a piece of furniture intended to last for decades.
Four compartments, multiple configurations
With its four identical storage spaces, the Model 1540 offers welcome flexibility. Each compartment measures 216 mm in height, 482 mm in width, and 295 mm in depth internally (347 mm with the rear panel removed). These dimensions comfortably accommodate most amplifiers, network players, compact turntables, and other audio sources.
Unlike other models in the Classic range such as the 1530, the Model 1540 cannot accept drawers in place of a compartment. This design choice prioritizes the height of each space, ideal for audio components that require adequate vertical ventilation. However, you have great freedom to choose the appearance of each compartment: left open to showcase a beautiful amplifier or turntable, closed with a wooden door in the same finishes as the unit, or fitted with a fabric door that lets sound and remote control infrared signals pass through.
The Model 1540 is also reversible, meaning you can choose to position the cable pass-through holes on the top or bottom panel depending on your installation constraints. You can opt for one or three holes depending on whether you want to concentrate the cabling in one spot or distribute it along the length of the unit.
Cable management: invisible elegance
It may be in its cable handling that Unnu’s experience in audio-video furniture shines most clearly. The rear panels of each compartment are magnetically attached and positioned 5 cm from the back of the unit. This space allows power cords, interconnects, and speaker cables to run completely out of sight from the front, while remaining easily accessible thanks to the magnetic fastening of the panels.
This solution is particularly convenient when you need to add a new device or modify your setup: simply remove the magnetic panel of the relevant compartment without having to move the entire unit or undo all the cabling. The cable pass-through holes at the top and bottom also make it easy to connect multiple units stacked or placed side by side—an important consideration for elaborate home theater installations.
Each compartment includes an adjustable shelf with three different positions. You can precisely adapt the storage height to your specific equipment—for example, position the shelf low to create a large space for a substantial amplifier, or place it higher to accommodate two stacked components. Additional shelves are available as an option if you wish to subdivide the space further.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can drawers be added to the Model 1540?
No. Unlike some other models in the Classic range such as the 1530, the Model 1540 does not offer the option to integrate drawers in place of a compartment. This limitation stems from the height optimized for standard audio-video equipment.
How do the fabric doors work with remotes and sound?
Unnu’s fabric doors are acoustically transparent and let infrared signals from remote controls pass through. You can therefore control your devices without opening the doors. The fabric also allows sound to pass naturally, enabling you to conceal speakers while preserving their performance. Nine colors are available across two series: Basis (white, black, silver, grey) and Melange (coal, concrete, frost, coffee, latte).
Can the unit be wall-mounted?
Yes, the Model 1540 can be attached to the wall using Unnu’s wall-mounting system, sold separately. The hanging system allows level adjustment and secures the unit firmly against the wall. Hammel Furniture recommends professional installation to ensure safety, given the weight of the unit and the equipment it may hold.
What is the difference between the Model 1540 and the Model 1530?
The Model 1530 has three compartments versus four for the 1540, resulting in a total width of 1551 mm instead of 2068 mm. Both models share the same depth of 365 mm and height of 248 mm. Another important difference: the 1530 allows replacing a compartment with two drawers, an option not available on the 1540.
How should lacquered finishes and veneers be maintained?
Lacquered surfaces can be cleaned with a slightly damp cloth and, if necessary, a mild detergent. Avoid abrasive products that could scratch the polyurethane lacquer. For oak or walnut veneers, a dry or very slightly damp cloth is usually sufficient. Hammel Furniture uses FSC-certified wood from sustainably managed forests, treated to withstand daily use while preserving its natural appearance.
Can the Model 1540 be placed directly on the floor?
Yes, the Model 1540 can simply be placed on the floor. However, Unnu also offers adjustable feet (stands) machined from a single block of aluminum, available in silver or black finishes. These raised feet make it easier to clean beneath the unit and allow precise leveling on slightly uneven floors. A set of seven feet is required for the Model 1540.
