Unnu Classic Series Model 230
Overview
The Unnu Model 230 is part of the Classic Series, designed to meet the storage and display needs of home cinema equipment. This 155 cm-wide Danish cabinet combines technical functionality with visual simplicity for domestic audio-video setups.
A lineage born from Clic’s expertise
The story of the Model 230 begins with Danish designer Mike Fabricius, who created the Clic brand in 1999 after noticing the lack of hi-fi furniture that combined build quality with practical thinking. Faced with a market offering either aesthetic products that neglected acoustics or technical solutions with no regard for design, Fabricius developed furniture where every detail serves both appearance and sonic performance.
Building on Clic’s success, Fabricius launched Unnu in partnership with Hammel Furniture, a Danish manufacturer established in 1961. The goal was to make Clic’s concepts accessible while maintaining high quality standards. Hammel Furniture, with factories located in Hammel and Skærbæk, Denmark, brings its expertise in producing furniture rooted in Danish craft traditions.
Construction and materials
The Model 230 is made of 16 mm MDF panels coated with a polyurethane paint that resists wear and discoloration. Each compartment is reinforced with four specially designed metal brackets positioned at the back to ensure rigidity and load capacity without compromising the design’s finesse.
The cabinet is divided into three identical compartments. Each can accommodate an adjustable shelf with three height positions, allowing you to tailor the space to your equipment. Additional shelves can be ordered to expand storage options.
Cable management and equipment access
The back panels are a distinctive feature of the Model 230. Magnetically mounted and set 5 cm in from the rear of the cabinet, they are easily removed to access connections. This design provides a cable routing space while maintaining a tidy front.
Two openings facilitate cable routing: one at the center of the top panel and another at the center of the bottom panel. This layout allows multiple cabinets to be linked together or equipment to be connected to other sources elsewhere in the room. Aluminum cover plates, available in silver or black with a discreet Unnu logo, can conceal these openings to perfect the look.
Compartment customization
Each compartment of the Model 230 can be configured in four different ways. It can remain open to showcase equipment, be fitted with a fabric door that lets sound and infrared remote signals pass, have a wooden door, or be replaced with two full-extension drawers capable of organizing CDs in three rows, or DVDs and Blu-rays in two rows.
Fabric doors come in nine colors across two collections: Melange (charcoal, concrete, frost, coffee, and latte) and Basic (white, silver, black, and gray). Wooden doors and drawers are available in the same finishes as the main cabinet: white or black paint, oak veneer, or walnut veneer.
Placement options
The Model 230 can be installed in three different ways. Placed directly on the floor, it has a sober, compact look. Unnu feet, 3.5 cm high with level adjustment, offer minimal elevation. For a more airy appearance, Unnu supports machined from solid aluminum raise the cabinet 19 cm off the floor with adjustable feet. The Unnu plinth, also aluminum, provides the same height with a different aesthetic.
Wall mounting is a third option using Unnu wall brackets, which allow the cabinet to sit flush against the wall while maintaining secure mounting and level adjustments.

Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between the Model 230 and the Model 231?
The Model 230 has one cable pass-through at the center of the bottom panel, whereas the Model 231 has three. This makes the Model 231 better suited for installations requiring multiple connections between adjacent compartments or to external devices.
Do fabric doors interfere with remote controls?
Fabric doors allow infrared remote signals to pass through, letting you control devices without opening the doors. Wooden doors, however, require an infrared extender kit to transmit signals to concealed components.
Can multiple Model 230 units be combined?
Yes, Model 230 units can be placed side by side or stacked to create larger configurations. The cable pass-throughs make connections between adjacent cabinets easier. The Unnu range is based on a modular system that combines different models across three depths, four widths, and three heights.
Do the finishes resist marks and impacts?
The polyurethane paint applied to all elements offers enhanced resistance to wear and discoloration. It protects surfaces from repeated contact and simplifies maintenance. Oak and walnut veneers receive the same protective treatment to preserve their natural look over time.
Do the shelves support heavy equipment?
The structure reinforced with four metal brackets in each compartment gives the cabinet a load capacity suitable for standard hi-fi and home cinema equipment. The shelves, adjustable in three positions, help optimize weight distribution according to component size.
