The ArtSound PWR12 is an all-in-one sound system designed by the Belgian brand. It includes an amplified subwoofer and a clip-on satellite column. The two-way speaker delivers 500 W RMS of Class D amplification, with peaks of up to 1500 W. It offers several connectivity options: Bluetooth 5.0, XLR, jack, RCA, and mic input. The system can also be wirelessly paired with a second unit via TWS technology.

A modular system with quick setup

The PWR12 stands out for its two-part architecture that can be assembled in just a few seconds. The compact subwoofer, featuring a handle on its top panel, houses the amplifier and the 30.5 cm woofer. The satellite column, 1.62 m high and weighing only 3.25 kg, clips directly onto the subwoofer with no need for any cabling.

This clip system allows assembly or disassembly in under five minutes. Depending on the desired setup, the user can deploy the column for long-throw coverage or keep it at a lower height for a more intimate space. This modularity makes transport easier: the column is stored separately from the subwoofer, and a protective cover is available to simplify moving it around.

The cabinet combines wood and ABS plastic, a choice that favors both the acoustic resonance of the sub and the overall lightness of the unit. With a total weight of about 20.75 kg, the PWR12 can still be carried by one person, even though the subwoofer alone weighs 17.5 kg.

Acoustic configuration and amplification

The two-way system is based on an active crossover with a cutoff frequency set at 240 Hz. The low frequencies are handled by a 12-inch woofer with a polypropylene cone, a material known for its rigidity and moisture resistance. The mids and highs are handled by eight 7.6 cm neodymium-magnet drivers, arranged in a line in the satellite column. This vertical configuration promotes an even dispersion of sound in the room.

The built-in Class D amplifier delivers 500 W RMS continuously. Peak power reaches 1500 W, allowing musical transients to be handled without distortion. This power is sufficient to cover an area of around 800 m², positioning the PWR12 for medium to large events: private parties, outdoor weddings, corporate gatherings, small festival stages.

The sensitivity of 122 dB (130 dB peak) ensures the speaker can reach substantial sound levels without pushing the amplifier to its limits. The frequency response ranges from 50 Hz to 20 kHz, covering the essential audible spectrum with an emphasis on low frequencies thanks to the 12-inch woofer.

Connectivity: from Bluetooth to XLR daisy-chaining

The XLR LINE OUT output allows several PWR12 units to be daisy-chained from a single audio source. Simply connect the output of the first speaker to the input of the next via an XLR cable. For those who prefer a wireless setup, the built-in TWS (True Wireless Stereo) technology lets you pair two PWR12 units for cable-free stereo playback.

Bluetooth 5.0 provides a stable connection with smartphones and tablets, compatible with streaming services such as Spotify, Deezer, or Qobuz. Volume controls are independent for the subwoofer, line input, auxiliary input, and microphone, in addition to a master volume.

Using wireless stereo

The TWS pairing deserves special attention. To configure two PWR12 units in stereo, you must first pair a smartphone or audio source with the first speaker via Bluetooth. This speaker automatically becomes the left channel. By pressing the STEREO LINK button on either of the two speakers, the second unit pairs as the right channel.

The LEDs flash during pairing and remain steadily lit once the connection is established. The first pairing can take up to one minute. This feature doubles the coverage area and creates a wider soundstage, particularly beneficial for outdoor events or large rooms.

What to keep in mind

The PWR12 is not a waterproof system: when used outdoors, it must be protected from bad weather. The USB port is exclusively for charging devices and does not allow audio playback from a USB flash drive. Finally, the 3.5 mm mini-jack microphone input is suitable for consumer microphones, but professional hosts using XLR mics will need to use the line input with an adapter or connect directly to the dedicated XLR input.

The weight of the subwoofer (17.5 kg) can be a constraint for frequent transport, although the built-in handle and optional cover make it easier to carry. The two-year manufacturer’s warranty covers manufacturing defects under normal usage conditions.
