A descendant of the Double Matrix Professional SONIC, it retains the dual-sided cleaning principle while adopting a significantly smaller footprint and a design philosophy focused on essentials.

Footprint reduced by half

With dimensions of 220 × 290 × 210 mm and a weight of 5.4 kg, the Smart Double Matrix fits on a corner of a piece of furniture or a standard shelf. The satin black acrylic enclosure, understated and elegant, integrates easily next to a turntable or audio system. The compact approach doesn’t sacrifice robustness: the structure is designed to withstand regular use, while the suction turbine is housed in a chassis engineered to limit vibration and noise.

Two sides, a single pass

The operating principle is based on two cleaning units placed on either side of the record. Once it is secured by the central record clamp, equipped with a sealing ring to keep the label dry, the brushes come into simultaneous contact with the grooves. Bidirectional rotation allows for multiple passes in both directions to dislodge dust, greasy residues, and other embedded impurities. The turbine suction then removes the dirt-laden cleaning fluid, leaving a dry record in just a few moments.

This method eliminates a recurring issue with single-sided cleaning machines: cross-contamination. On a conventional model, the already cleaned side rests on the platter while the second side is being treated, risking the pickup of particles. Simultaneous cleaning removes this concern while cutting treatment time in half.

Intuitive, fully manual controls

The user remains in control of every step of the process. A slider lets you adjust brush pressure according to the condition and size of the record; the machine accepts 18 cm, 25 cm, and 30 cm formats without any parts change. Cleaning fluid is applied by a simple press of a button, allowing you to dose the amount according to the level of soiling. The rotation controls (clockwise, counterclockwise) and suction are also within easy reach.

This manual approach is a deliberate choice. By forgoing automatic programs, level indicators, and vibration modules found on the Double Matrix Professional SONIC, Clearaudio has been able to reduce the complexity and cost of the unit while preserving the effectiveness of dual-sided cleaning.

Built-in antistatic treatment

The brushes are fitted with antistatic carbon fibers that discharge the electrical charges accumulated on the vinyl surface. This feature reduces dust attraction after cleaning, extending the interval between cleanings and reducing crackle during playback.

Manufacturing refocused on essentials

The Smart Double Matrix marks a first for the German manufacturer: certain components, notably the storage and waste liquid tanks, are produced by 3D printing directly in the Erlangen workshops. This choice reduces reliance on subcontractors and optimizes production resources.

The machine operates at up to 190 W and features a rocker switch that completely cuts power in standby, resulting in zero consumption when the unit is turned off. A welcome detail for those looking to limit the power usage of their audio equipment.
