ArtSound FL301 (pack of 2)
Overview
A frame just one millimeter wide, a paintable magnetic grille, and depth reduced to 70 mm: the FL301 perfectly illustrates the philosophy of the Flat series, where the speaker disappears visually in favor of the sound. This 2-way rectangular model has been refined compared with previous generations, with particular attention paid to vibration absorption and a silkier feel to the grille. The result is an in‑wall speaker that blends into the background visually while delivering generous sound coverage.
A slim profile with no acoustic compromise
The Flat series takes its name from its minimal footprint. On the FL301, the frame measures 1 mm in width and 4 mm in thickness, minimizing the visible surface area once the speaker is installed. This slim design does not prevent effective vibration control: the ABS structure has been optimized to avoid unwanted resonances, a point often neglected on entry‑level and midrange models.
The rectangular enclosure measuring 280 × 190 mm requires a 245 × 160 mm cutout in the wall, and a mounting depth of at least 75 mm. These dimensions allow the FL301 to be integrated into most standard partition walls without major work.
Two-way acoustic architecture
The 2-way system combines a 133 mm (5.25”) woofer with a carbon‑polypropylene cone and a 25 mm (1”) polycarbonate tweeter. This combination of materials aims for a balance between rigidity and lightness: the woofer’s composite cone offers good mechanical stability for reproducing bass and midrange, while the tweeter’s polycarbonate dome ensures proper dispersion of the high frequencies.
The frequency response extends from 75 Hz to 20 kHz, with a sensitivity of 87 dB. This moderate sensitivity means a reasonably powerful amplifier will be welcome to get the best out of the speaker. ArtSound recommends an amplifier power between 20 and 120 W into 8 Ω, which leaves plenty of flexibility depending on your existing setup.
Installation designed for simplicity
One of the strengths of the Flat range lies in its ease of installation. The FL301 is mounted using adjustment screws that clamp the speaker against the drywall from behind, without requiring access to the back of the wall once the hole has been cut. The magnetically attached grille snaps into place without tools and can be removed at any time for cleaning or repainting.
This white grille supplied as standard is designed to be painted in the color of your choice. A practical detail when the speaker needs to disappear into a colored wall or blend with a tinted ceiling.
Sound coverage and use cases
With a stated coverage area of under 50 m², the FL301 is suitable for medium‑sized rooms. In an open‑plan kitchen, bedroom, or office, a pair of speakers will generally be enough to fill the space with even sound. For larger volumes or demanding home‑cinema setups, you’ll need to consider more powerful models from the range (FL401, FL501) or the addition of a subwoofer.
According to the Belgian manufacturer, the sound signature emphasizes warm low‑midrange and clear detail, a balance that favors long listening sessions over pure technical showmanship. This positioning is well suited to background music or integration into a multiroom system, where listening fatigue must remain minimal.
Accessories and system integration
ArtSound offers MDF installation kits (references KITRE1 and KITRE2) that make it easier to mount the speaker in technical partitions or suspended ceilings. A replacement grille is also available individually for those who want a spare already painted.
In terms of connectivity, the FL301 remains a classic passive speaker: it connects to an amplifier via screw terminals, with no built‑in wireless functionality. For a multiroom setup, it can be paired with the brand’s amplifiers or with third‑party solutions compatible with the 8 Ω impedance.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the FL301 be installed in the ceiling?
Although the rectangular format is primarily designed for in‑wall mounting, there is no technical reason it cannot be installed in a ceiling, provided the cutout and available depth are suitable. However, for ceiling integration, the round models in the Flat series (FL401, FL501) or the Happi range are generally more aesthetically appropriate.
What is the minimum wall thickness required?
The mounting depth is 70 mm, but ArtSound recommends allowing at least 75 mm to make cable routing easier and ensure proper ventilation behind the driver. Standard plasterboard partitions of 72 or 98 mm are perfectly suitable.
Can the FL301 be used outdoors or in damp rooms?
No, the FL301 is not certified for use in humid environments or outdoors. For these applications, ArtSound offers the Happi range (bathrooms, covered terraces) and the Outsiders range (outdoor).
