General information

The AT-LT10 headshell is a universal ½-inch mount headshell designed for four-pin phono cartridges with or without threaded inserts. The elongated through-holes allow precise positioning of the cartridge to achieve correct overhang adjustment and a suitable tonearm length. The lightweight die-cast aluminum body reduces vibrations to an absolute minimum, and the non-slip finger rest enables precise stylus placement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the AT-LT10 compatible with straight tonearms?

No, this headshell is designed for S-shaped or J-shaped arms, whose curvature ensures the correct angle between the stylus and the groove. Straight arms require an angled headshell, such as Audio-Technica’s AT-HS4, which compensates for the lack of arm curvature.

Can I mount a cartridge without threaded inserts on this headshell?

Yes. The supplied screws pass through the cartridge’s holes and screw directly into the headshell’s slots. The included plastic washers hold everything firmly in place. This system works just as well with cartridges that have threaded inserts as with those that don’t.

Is the 10-gram weight suitable for all cartridges?

This weight falls within the standard range accepted by most tonearms. However, you must check that the total mass (headshell + cartridge) remains compatible with the counterweight adjustment range of your arm. Some heavy cartridges combined with this headshell may require an additional counterweight.

How can I tell if my turntable uses the ½" mounting standard?

The ½” mount is identified by the 12.7 mm spacing between the two mounting holes. It is the most common standard on today’s turntables (Technics, Audio-Technica, Pro-Ject, Rega with adapter, etc.). If in doubt, consult your turntable’s manual or measure the center distance between the holes on your existing headshell.

What is the difference between OFC wiring and gold-plated wires?

OFC copper provides excellent conductivity thanks to its high purity. Gold-plated wires, found on other models such as the AT-HS6, add a protective layer against oxidation at the contact points. Both solutions are reliable; the choice is more a matter of personal preference than of a marked sonic difference.

Do I need to realign the cartridge every time I change the headshell?

Yes. Overhang and azimuth must be checked and adjusted with each installation or headshell change. An alignment protractor (Baerwald, Stevenson, or Löfgren, depending on your arm) allows you to correctly position the cartridge to minimize tracking distortion across the entire record surface.
