The rear enclosure, molded in a single piece of reinforced ABS, forms a hermetically sealed housing that completely isolates the internal components. The 16.5 cm woofer features a carbon-loaded polypropylene cone, a material that is unaffected by humidity or temperature fluctuations. The dual-cone tweeter benefits from the same waterproof treatment.

This one-piece design also offers a valuable secondary advantage: it prevents any infiltration of dust or insulating fibers when the speaker is installed in a false ceiling filled with glass wool.

The waterproof certification opens up an unusually broad range of applications for a built-in speaker. In the home, the MDC64 naturally finds its place in wet areas: bathroom, kitchen, but also sauna or steam room where vapor would quickly disable a conventional speaker. The 95 Hz low-end limit means bass that is present but not extremely deep: this type of model and design is not expected to reproduce the infrabass range of a dedicated subwoofer. On the other hand, the midrange and treble remain clear and well-defined, supported by the 86 dB sensitivity that allows for a satisfying sound level even with a modest amplifier.

The continuous power handling of 50 watts RMS (100 watts peak) provides comfortable headroom for most residential uses. ArtSound recommends an amplifier delivering between 10 and 100 watts into 8 ohms, a range that matches the majority of hi-fi amplifiers or multiroom systems on the market. A pair of MDC64 speakers can cover an area of up to 50 m², which is enough to provide sound for a large living room, a generous terrace, or a medium-sized commercial space.

Simplified installation thanks to compact format

The shallow mounting depth is one of this model’s practical advantages: 83 mm is all that is needed behind the plane of the ceiling or wall, allowing installation in thin false ceilings or lightweight partitions. The 133 mm cutout diameter can be easily made with a hole saw, and the overall 180 mm diameter provides a discreet finish once the grille is in place.

The unit weight of 1 kg remains reasonable, but warrants attention if you are mounting it in paneling or on a fragile surface. Careful fastening is essential to ensure long-term stability, especially since the waterproof design prevents any access to internal components after installation.
