ArtSound HPRO820 (pack of 2)
Overview
An 8-inch woofer, a pivoting tweeter, and a splash-resistant design: the HPRO820 is the most capable model in the Happi series. This round in-ceiling speaker embraces ArtSound’s signature minimalist philosophy — a frame barely 1 mm thick, a smooth, paintable magnetic grille — while pushing acoustic performance towards deeper bass and a wider sound dispersion, able to fill spaces of up to 60 m².
From living room to covered terrace
The Happi range takes its name from the Finnish word for oxygen and the outdoors. This is no coincidence: the choice of aluminium for the woofer cone and grille gives the HPRO820 a level of moisture resistance that extends its use well beyond conventional living spaces. Kitchen exposed to cooking vapours, bathroom, pool house, or covered terrace: all environments where a traditional speaker would quickly suffer from condensation. The HPRO820 is, however, only water-repellent, not waterproof — it must be protected from direct rain or heavy splashes.
In a living room or office, the 20 cm woofer delivers a frequency response starting at 50 Hz, providing a much more substantial low-end foundation than the 5.25” or 6.5” models in the same series. The aluminium-dome tweeter with neodymium magnet can be manually pivoted to direct the highs towards the main listening area, a valuable advantage when the speaker is not positioned directly above the listeners.
Discreet, seamless integration
Installing the HPRO820 requires only a circular cut-out of 245 mm in a suspended ceiling or hollow partition wall. ArtSound’s patented mounting system relies on self-clamping screws that pull the speaker tight against the mounting surface with just a few turns of a screwdriver. Once the speaker cable is connected and the unit is in place, the grille snaps on magnetically, with no visible screws or clips.
This aluminium grille has a satin, slightly textured finish that blends naturally into a white ceiling. For darker interiors or specific décors, a black version is available as an accessory (reference GRILLHPRO820B). The grille can also be repainted in a colour of your choice, provided you apply thin coats to avoid clogging the perforations.
Warm, engaging sound reproduction
Speakers designed to withstand humidity often have a nasal tone, a side effect of the protective coatings applied to the diaphragms. ArtSound avoids this pitfall by combining a treated aluminium cone, a separate tweeter, and a passive crossover tuned to smooth the transition between the two drivers. The result, according to the manufacturer, is a warm sound, with full-bodied bass and detailed yet precise reproduction of the upper frequencies.
With a sensitivity of 87 dB at 8 ohms, the HPRO820 works well with modest amplifiers — from 15 W per channel — while handling up to 100 W for more demanding setups. In large rooms or noisy environments, it may be wise to install a pair of speakers rather than a single one, in order to distribute the sound more evenly and avoid pushing the amplifier to its limits.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the grille really be repainted without affecting the sound?
Yes, provided you use spray paint applied in fine, successive passes. A layer that is too thick could clog the micro-perforations and restrict airflow, which would alter the response in the high frequencies.
Can the HPRO820 be installed in a shower or above a bathtub?
No. The speaker is resistant to splashes and ambient humidity, but it is not waterproof. It must be installed at a sensible distance from water points to avoid any direct contact with water.
What type of cable should be used for connection?
A standard 1.5 mm² speaker cable is suitable for runs of up to around 15 metres. Beyond that, it is preferable to use 2.5 mm² to limit losses.
How does it differ from the HPRO525 and HPRO650 models?
The woofer diameter increases across the range: 5.25” for the HPRO525, 6.5” for the HPRO650, and 8” for the HPRO820. This progression results in more extended low-frequency response and a greater ability to cover larger volumes without distortion.
