Overview

An audio system evolves over time: amplifiers change, speakers too, and connection terminals vary from one device to another. Rather than buying new cables with every configuration change, Wireworld has developed the Uni-Term system, which allows you to change your speaker cable terminations in a matter of seconds. This set of eight silver forks is enough to equip a complete pair of stereo cables.

The principle of interchangeability

The Uni-Term system is based on a modular architecture where the termination (spade or banana) is screwed onto a socket fixed to the cable. Each spade is installed without any special tools thanks to a simple clamping screw. This design makes it possible to switch from a spade to a banana plug, or the opposite, depending on the equipment in use. Users of Wireworld cables can thus keep their cables over the long term, even if they change amplifiers or speakers.

The supplied kit includes all the elements required for a complete installation: the eight spade connectors, the matching sockets, and the fixing screws. Those who already own Wireworld cables equipped with the Uni-Term system can also purchase the spades alone (in the “exchange” version) to modify their existing terminations.

Silver-clad: a generous layer of silver

Wireworld offers its Uni-Term connectors in two finishes: gold-plated and silver-clad. The silver-clad version stands out by the thickness of its silver layer, about three times greater than that of a simple plating. Since silver is the metal with the best electrical conductivity, this treatment aims to reduce signal loss at the connection point.

The conductor itself is made of OFC copper (Oxygen-Free Copper), purified to 99.99%. This material is a recognized standard in the audio industry for its conductive properties. The combination of OFC copper and the silver-clad coating creates a connector designed to minimize contact resistance.

Wide compatibility with speaker terminals

Uni-Term spades adopt a universal profile that fits the two most common standards: 6.3 mm (1/4 inch) terminals and 9 mm terminals. This versatility avoids unpleasant surprises when connecting to a new amplifier or new speakers, since the vast majority of hi-fi equipment uses one or the other of these formats.

Mounting options for DIY cables

Although Uni-Term connectors come as standard on Wireworld speaker cables (with the exception of the Horizon range), they can also be used for custom cable projects. The universal spades allow direct soldering, without the socket, for those who prefer this attachment method. The 1/4-inch spades also offer the possibility of crimping, an alternative to soldering appreciated by some installers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are Uni-Term silver spades compatible with all Wireworld speaker cables?

Yes, all Wireworld speaker cables equipped with the Uni-Term system accept these terminations. Only the Horizon range uses another type of connector and is therefore not compatible.

What is the difference between the silver version and the gold version?

The silver version uses a silver-clad coating (a thick silver layer) on OFC copper, while the gold version combines a gold plating over silver, itself applied to OFC copper. Silver offers slightly better conductivity than gold, but gold is more resistant to oxidation over time.

Can these spades be used on cables from other brands?

Technically, the spades can be soldered directly onto any conductor of a compatible gauge. However, the socket-and-screw system is specifically designed for Wireworld cables.

Are any special tools required to install the spades?

No, standard installation with the socket is done by hand using the clamping screw. For direct soldering or crimping, the usual tools (soldering iron, crimping pliers) are required.

Is a set of 8 spades enough for a pair of bi-amped stereo cables?

No, a bi-amped configuration requires 16 spades (4 per cable, on the amplifier side and on the speaker side). A second set will be needed for this type of installation.

Do the universal spades fit WBT terminals?

Yes, WBT terminals generally use the standard format compatible with Uni-Term spades. Compatibility with 6.3 mm and 9 mm terminals covers the vast majority of equipment on the market.

What cable gauge can be used with this system?

The Uni-Term system accepts the common gauges used for hi-fi speaker cables. For unusually thin or thick gauges, direct soldering offers more flexibility than the socket system.
