SVS PB-3000 R|Evolution
Overview
Succeeding the popular PB-3000, this complete overhaul incorporates the acoustic advances developed for the high-end 17-Ultra R|Evolution and 5000 R|Evolution series. The move to a more powerful amplifier platform, combined with a modern DSP and a completely redesigned driver, redefines what a 33 cm bass-reflex subwoofer can do in this size category.
A driver designed for long excursions
The 33 cm (13-inch) driver used in the PB-3000 R|Evolution has been newly designed with a focus on controlling large-amplitude movements. The voice coil uses a flat-edge wound split-wind on a 5 cm aluminum former with high thermal conductivity, an architecture that maximizes the available magnetic force at high excursions while reducing moving mass to improve responsiveness.
The motor combines two toroidal Y30 ferrite magnets with an oversized steel back plate, generating a magnetic field capable of supporting a linear excursion (Xmax) of 30.1 mm and a mechanical excursion (Xmech) of 72.9 mm. An aluminum 6063 demodulation ring helps limit intermodulation distortion at high output levels.
The high-density cast aluminum frame, optimized by finite element analysis, maintains precise alignment of the moving parts. The vented cone in 1100 aluminum combines rigidity and lightness, while the suspension uses a 16.5 cm double-layer Nomex spider and a very long-throw SBR surround. The assembly weighs 10.5 kg, of which 8.4 kg is for the motor alone.
More powerful and more refined electronics
The Class D amplifier with discrete MOSFET output stages delivers 1200 W continuous and exceeds 4000 W peak, a 50% increase over the previous generation. Four 60 A / 200 V MOSFET transistors drive the driver with reduced electromagnetic radiation and high efficiency. The resonant LLC switching power supply maintains a regulated 160 V rail regardless of load, while a convective plate drawing air from below provides cooling without any visible external heatsink.
The Analog Devices digital signal processor clocked at 295 MHz represents a significant leap over the 50 MHz DSP of the old model. SVS claims five times more processing power, enabling 56-bit double-precision audio processing and a total harmonic distortion plus noise figure below 0.05% at rated power.
A configurable bass-reflex cabinet
The high-density MDF cabinet, internally braced to eliminate unwanted resonances, uses a dual 8.9 cm (3.5-inch) port bass-reflex configuration. This design provides rated extension down to 16 Hz (±3 dB) in standard mode. The supplied foam plugs allow the subwoofer to be converted to a sealed enclosure, raising the low-end limit to 18 Hz while altering transient behavior.
With dimensions of 557 × 465 × 626 mm (grille included) and a weight of 38.6 kg, the PB-3000 R|Evolution is sizeable but still more manageable than the 5000 or 17-Ultra models. Screw-in iso-elastomer feet provide floor decoupling and reduce vibrational transmission to adjacent surfaces. The premium Black Ash finish covers the cabinet, while the non-resonant ABS grille with acoustic fabric can be removed with no measurable sonic impact.
Control and integration via the SVS app
The OLED screen on the back of the subwoofer provides direct access to essential settings and includes a Display Flip function for comfortable reading regardless of orientation. The SVS mobile app (iOS, Android, and Fire), however, unlocks the full range of calibration options.
Six parametric EQs replace the three bands available on the previous model, offering finer control of room modes. Room gain compensation attenuates the excess deep bass energy typical of small rooms. Three user presets allow quick switching between configurations depending on the content—whether music, movies, or a reduced-output night mode.
SVS plans to add an automatic room EQ function via a firmware update. This calibration will use the smartphone’s microphone or an external mic to analyze the acoustic response and automatically apply corrective filters tailored to the listening environment.
Connectivity includes an unbalanced RCA input (10 kΩ, up to 4 Vrms) and a balanced XLR input (18 kΩ, up to +14 dBu), enabling integration into both home cinema systems and hi-fi or studio setups. A 3.5 mm (3–12 V AC/DC) trigger, an infrared input, and a USB port for the optional SoundPath wireless adapter round out the connection options. Standby power consumption remains below 0.5 W.
Using a dual-sub configuration
Using two PB-3000 R|Evolution subs helps reduce response variations caused by room standing waves. By distributing the bass sources, the density of sound waves increases and the peaks and dips typical of a single listening position are smoothed out. This approach also benefits the automatic room correction systems in AV receivers, which then have a more even baseline curve to work with.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the PB-3000 R|Evolution operate in sealed mode?
Yes. The two supplied foam plugs can be used to block the ports and configure the subwoofer as an acoustic sealed enclosure. The DSP automatically adjusts its response curve when this mode is selected via the app, with low-frequency extension shifting from 16 Hz to 18 Hz (±3 dB).
What is the main difference compared to the original PB-3000?
The amplifier increases from 800 W to 1200 W continuous, the DSP moves from a 50 MHz processor to a 295 MHz model offering five times more processing power, and the number of parametric EQ bands goes from three to six. The driver has also been completely redesigned with a new voice coil and motor architecture.
Does the XLR input offer an advantage over the RCA input?
The balanced XLR input rejects interference over long cable runs and supports a higher signal level (+14 dBu versus 4 Vrms). It is particularly useful in setups where the subwoofer is far from the source electronics or in environments subject to electromagnetic interference.
How much space should be left around the subwoofer?
SVS recommends leaving at least 5 to 10 cm of free space behind and on the sides to allow proper ventilation and avoid unwanted reflections near the ports. In sealed configuration (ports plugged), rear clearance requirements are less critical.
Is the SoundPath wireless adapter included?
No, the SVS SoundPath Wireless Audio adapter is sold separately. The USB port on the connection panel allows it to be powered directly once installed, simplifying cabling in setups where running an audio cable is not practical.
