Canton Inceiling 865 (pack of 2)
Overview
Round, flat, discreet: with its 24.5 cm diameter and installation depth of just 9 cm, the Inceiling 865 takes on the profile of a ceiling spotlight. German manufacturer Canton designed it to deliver sound without taking up space, in rooms where placing traditional speakers would be difficult or unsightly. Its aluminum tweeter can be manually oriented, allowing you to fine-tune sound projection according to the room layout.
Coaxial design and aluminum cones
The Inceiling 865 belongs to Canton’s 800 series, which stands apart from entry-level ranges through the exclusive use of aluminum cones for both drivers. The 165 mm woofer and 25 mm tweeter share the same axis (coaxial configuration), a layout that promotes coherent sound reproduction regardless of the listener’s position in the room.
The rigidity of aluminum enables the cones to better resist deformation under stress, with a direct impact on midrange precision and treble clarity. The tweeter pivots on its mount, providing some flexibility to direct the high frequencies toward the main listening area. A three-position switch also allows you to slightly cut or boost the treble level depending on the room’s acoustics.
Frequency response and sound capabilities
With a stated frequency range of 45 Hz to 40,000 Hz and a sensitivity of 87.5 dB, the Inceiling 865 covers a wide spectrum for a speaker of this size. The crossover frequency between the woofer and the tweeter is set at 3000 Hz.
In terms of power, Canton specifies 60 watts nominal and 120 watts peak music power. The 8-ohm impedance ensures compatibility with almost all hi-fi amplifiers and home theater receivers on the market. For high-volume listening or a more generous low-end response, adding a subwoofer remains an option.
Installation and integration in the ceiling
The required cutout measures 20.4 cm in diameter. Spring-loaded mounting clamps hold the speaker in place once inserted into the false ceiling, with no visible screws. Canton includes a cutting template in the box.
The metal grille is magnetically attached and can be removed for painting in the same color as the ceiling. This customization option helps the speaker blend into the décor, whether in a residential interior or a professional space. The “Easy-Link” terminals on the back accept bare wire and simplify wiring, even in hard-to-reach areas.
Use cases and possible configurations
The Inceiling 865 is suitable for background music in an open kitchen, living room, hallway, or bathroom (provided the room is properly ventilated and installation is outside any area of direct water spray). In a stereo setup, two units spaced a few meters apart produce a homogeneous soundstage.
The speaker can also be used as a height effects channel in a Dolby Atmos system, where the goal is to reproduce sounds coming from the ceiling. Its wide dispersion angle and adjustable tweeter make it easier to fine‑tune the three-dimensional effect.
For rooms where only a single installation point is possible, Canton offers a variant called Inceiling 865 DT, featuring two tweeters and a dual voice-coil woofer, capable of reproducing both channels of a stereo signal from a single chassis.

Frequently Asked Questions
What ceiling thickness is supported?
Canton specifies a maximum thickness of 4 cm for the ceiling material (plasterboard, paneling, etc.). Beyond that, the mounting clamps may no longer provide a secure hold.
Is a subwoofer required with these speakers?
For background listening or moderate volume levels, the Inceiling 865 is usually sufficient. In home theater setups or for music with deep bass (electronic, hip-hop, film scores), a subwoofer will usefully extend the lower end of the spectrum.
Is the tweeter adjustable?
Yes, in two ways: its physical orientation can be adjusted manually (swivel mount), and a three-position switch allows you to slightly cut or boost its level by a few decibels.
What cable gauge should I use?
Canton recommends speaker cable with a cross-section of at least 1.5 mm² for runs up to 10 meters. Beyond that, moving up to 2.5 mm² reduces losses.
Can the grille be painted without removing it?
It’s best to remove it (it detaches easily thanks to its magnets) to avoid any paint splatter on the woofer cone.
Is the Inceiling 865 compatible with multiroom systems?
Yes, provided it is powered by a suitable amplifier. Canton offers the Smart Amp 5.1 S2, which can drive several zones, but any hi-fi or multichannel amp with passive speaker outputs will work.
What’s the difference compared with the 865 DT model?
The 865 DT features two tweeters and a dual voice-coil woofer, allowing it to reproduce a full stereo signal from a single chassis. It is designed for tight spaces where installing two separate speakers would be impossible.
