Canton InWall 845 (pack of 2)
Overview
A speaker that disappears into the wall without sacrificing sound quality. German manufacturer Canton, active since 1972, offers with the InWall 845 a discreet solution with an aluminium cone. Compact rectangular format (19 × 27 cm), pivoting tweeter, treble adjustment: there are numerous room-adaptation options for a model in this segment.
All-aluminium drivers for a coherent sound signature
The InWall 845 uses a two-way configuration with a 135 mm mid-woofer and a 25 mm soft-dome tweeter, both featuring aluminium diaphragms. This choice of material ensures high rigidity and low mass, resulting in fast transient response and consistent behaviour across the spectrum. The stated frequency response extends from 50 Hz to 40,000 Hz, with a crossover at 2,900 Hz.
Canton integrates a “Wave Surround” system on the woofer, a peripheral surround that extends the useful excursion of the cone without excessive distortion. The nominal impedance of 8 ohms and sensitivity of 86.5 dB (2.83 V/1 m) place this speaker in an easy-to-drive average range: an amplifier of 50 to 100 watts per channel is sufficient.
A pivoting tweeter to correct the listening axis
The tweeter can be pivoted on its mount, allowing you to direct the high frequencies towards the listening area even if the speaker is offset from the ideal position. This flexibility is important in an in-wall installation where architectural constraints often dictate placement.
A three-position switch adjusts the treble level to compensate for the room’s acoustics. Glass surfaces, reflective walls, absorbent furniture: each configuration alters the tonal balance. The built-in control avoids the need for an external equalizer or DSP corrections in the amplifier.
Easy-Link system for simplified installation
Canton equips its in-wall speakers with Easy-Link connectors, spring-loaded terminals that accept bare wire directly. No need for banana plugs or spade lugs: insert, release, and it’s fixed. Fold-down clamping tabs hold the speaker against the wall with no screwing required. The only operation needed is a rectangular cutout of 15.2 × 23.3 cm and a minimum available depth of 7 cm.
The maximum supported wall thickness is 4 cm, which covers most standard plasterboard panels. For thicker partitions, Canton offers optional mounting accessories.
Magnetic grille and customizable finish
The metal grille attaches magnetically and can be removed in one motion to access the treble adjustment system or for cleaning. It can be painted to blend in with the wall colour, a welcome option in interiors where visual uniformity is a priority.
The chassis and frame of the InWall 845 are supplied in white. The low weight of 1.3 kg per speaker does not put excessive strain on the wall structure once installed.
Positioning within the InWall range
The InWall 845 sits in the mid-range of Canton’s catalogue. The less expensive InWall 443 model uses polypropylene cones and a 115 mm woofer: it doesn’t go as low or as high in frequency (50–30,000 Hz). The InWall 865 retains the aluminium cones but adopts a 165 mm woofer for a more substantial low-end foundation, at the cost of a larger chassis.
For home cinema installations, the InWall 845 LCR variant features two 135 mm woofers in an Appolito configuration, which broadens the soundstage and improves handling of the centre dialogue channel.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the InWall 845 be installed in the ceiling?
The rectangular format and mounting system are designed for in-wall installation. Canton offers an equivalent ceiling version, the InCeiling 845, with a 19 cm round chassis suited to suspended ceiling tiles.
Which amp to power a pair of InWall 845?
With 86.5 dB sensitivity and 8 ohms impedance, a stereo or multichannel amplifier delivering between 30 and 100 watts per channel is suitable. Models with a low damping factor may lack control in the bass; it’s better to choose a quality amp rather than an entry-level receiver.
Does painting the grille affect the sound?
A thin, even coat of paint does not significantly affect acoustic transmission. Avoid thick or textured paints that clog the perforations of the metal grille.
How do I access the treble adjustment after installation?
The magnetic grille can be removed without tools. The three-position switch is located on the chassis, accessible once the grille is removed. No disassembly of the speaker is required.
Can the InWall 845 be used in damp areas (bathroom)?
No. This model is not certified for humid environments. Canton offers the Pro range with a suitable protection rating for this type of installation.
