Overview
Open-back planar magnetic headphones that work without an audio cable, external DAC or dedicated amplifier: the Arya WiFi combines a WiFi receiver, a Bluetooth receiver, a miniature Hymalaya R2R DAC paired with an amplifier, and a USB-C connection. These three operating modes fit into a single device designed for high-fidelity listening at home, where freedom of movement does not come at the expense of signal quality. Now Roon Ready certified, it also integrates directly into a Roon setup.
WiFi for high-resolution audio
Bluetooth offers bandwidth of around 1.1 Mbps, insufficient for high-resolution lossless audio, while WiFi can transfer data at up to 5,064 Mbps, enough to handle all lossless formats currently available.
The Arya WiFi takes advantage of this fundamental difference: its WiFi system transmits music at rates of up to 633 Mbps, allowing it to handle high-resolution formats without compression. Initial setup takes place through a smartphone’s or tablet’s network settings: the device connects to the dedicated WiFi network created by the headphones, then the audio stream travels directly to the drivers.
This architecture supports lossless files up to 32-bit/768 kHz and native DSD512 from streaming services such as Tidal, Qobuz or Apple Music.
Roon Ready: direct integration into the Roon ecosystem
For music lovers who organize their listening around Roon, software that brings together a personal library and streaming services in a single interface, Roon Ready certification changes how they use the headphones. The Arya WiFi natively recognizes Roon’s streaming protocol and appears in the list of playback zones alongside other audio devices in the home. The Roon server, installed on a computer or dedicated device, sends music to it bit-perfect, without altering the data or reducing its resolution, all the way to the converter housed in the earcups. Track selection, volume and switching between zones are controlled from the Roon app on a phone, tablet or computer.
Planar drivers and integrated R2R conversion
The Arya WiFi uses Hifiman’s Neo Super Nano diaphragm, a thicker variant than the HE1000 WiFi’s Nano Diaphragm, designed to improve transient response and overall efficiency. This diaphragm retains the speed characteristic of Hifiman planar drivers while offering greater durability.
The Hymalaya R2R DAC is an in-house digital-to-analog converter based on a resistor network. Unlike the delta-sigma chips used in most consumer devices, R2R designs are valued for their natural tonal reproduction and smooth dynamics.
The Hymalaya chip is paired with a balanced class A/B amplifier in each earcup, keeping the signal path as short as possible. Stealth Magnet technology, inherited from Hifiman’s high-end models, reduces acoustic wave diffraction by allowing sound to pass through the magnets without significant interference.
Measured specifications
Frequency response extends from 8 Hz to 55 kHz, with THD+N of 0.009% at 32 ohms when the DAC and amplifier operate together. Channel separation reaches 105 dB at 1 kHz, and the headphones weigh 452 grams.
That is approximately 40 to 50 grams more than the wired versions of the Arya (404 to 413 g, depending on the variant), due to the onboard electronics and battery.
Bluetooth and USB-C as additional options
In addition to WiFi streaming, the Arya WiFi supports Bluetooth 5.1 with SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD and LDAC codecs, as well as wired playback via USB-C. It has no 3.5 mm jack input.
Battery life is around 6.5 to 7.5 hours over WiFi and up to 23 hours over Bluetooth, a difference that reflects WiFi’s higher power consumption. A full charge takes 3 to 4 hours, and standby battery life exceeds 30 days.
Open-back construction and home use
The open-back design lets air and sound pass through the earcups, widening the soundstage and improving spatial reproduction, but provides no sound isolation: sound leaks out and ambient noise gets in. The Arya WiFi is therefore intended for quiet environments, at home or in a private office, rather than for commuting.
The asymmetrical ear pads follow the ear’s natural shape, and the redesigned headband distributes weight more evenly across the head.

The Hifiman Arya WiFi are great fun, and super-capable, just not quite the most transparent-sounding in the Hifiman line-up. [...] They have a relatively up-front presentation, putting their extended, well-separated sound field up close to your ears. This acts as warming filler that I find can clump around vocals in a way that makes the Arya WiFi sound less precise, less high-end, than they might otherwise.

How does the WiFi connection work?
The headphones create their own WiFi network. On the smartphone or tablet, access the network settings, select the headphones’ network, and music can then be streamed from the usual audio apps. Setup is only required once per device.
Which streaming services are compatible?
Major audio streaming platforms, including Spotify and Qobuz, are supported by the Arya WiFi. Tidal, Apple Music, and Roon also work. Compatibility depends on the app rather than the headphones: any service accessible from the smartphone can send its audio stream to the headphones.
