Hifiman Arya WIFI
Overview
An open-back planar magnetic headphone that works without an audio cable, without an external DAC, and without a dedicated amplifier. The Arya WiFi integrates a WiFi receiver, a Bluetooth receiver, a miniature Hymalaya R2R DAC with amplifier, and USB-C connectivity. Three operating modes in a single device, designed for high-fidelity home listening where freedom of movement does not sacrifice signal quality.
WiFi as a high-resolution audio transport
Bluetooth offers bandwidth of around 1.1 Mbps, insufficient for high-resolution lossless audio. WiFi can transfer data at up to 5,064 Mbps, which accommodates all currently available lossless formats.
The Arya WiFi takes advantage of this fundamental difference. The WiFi system used can transmit music at rates up to 633 Mbps, allowing the headphones to handle high-resolution audio formats without compression. Initial setup is done through the smartphone or tablet’s network settings: connect to the dedicated WiFi network created by the headphones, then the audio stream is sent directly to the drivers.
This architecture allows playback of lossless files up to 32-bit/768 kHz and native DSD512 from streaming services such as Tidal, Qobuz, Apple Music, or Roon.
Planar drivers and integrated R2R conversion
The Arya WiFi uses Hifiman’s Super Nano diaphragm, a thicker variant of the brand’s planar design, intended to improve transient response and overall efficiency. This membrane, more robust than the Nano Diaphragm of the HE1000 WiFi, retains the fast response characteristic of Hifiman planar headphones while offering better durability.
The Hymalaya R2R DAC is an in-house digital-to-analog converter based on a resistor ladder architecture. Unlike the delta-sigma chips used in most consumer devices, R2R designs are valued for their natural tonal presentation and fluid dynamics.
The Hymalaya chip is paired with a balanced class A/B amplifier in each earcup. Locating the DAC and amplifier inside the earcups shortens the signal path as much as possible. Stealth Magnet technology, found on Hifiman’s high-end models, reduces acoustic wave diffraction by allowing sound to pass through the magnets without notable interference.
Measured specifications
Hifiman specifies a frequency response of 8 Hz to 55 kHz with THD+N of 0.009% at 32 ohms when the DAC and amplifier are operating together. Channel separation is 105 dB at 1 kHz, and the headphones weigh 452 grams.
This weight represents an increase of about 40 to 50 grams compared with the wired versions of the Arya (404 to 413 g depending on the variant), due to the onboard electronics and battery.
Bluetooth and USB-C as complements
WiFi is the main mode, but not the only one. The Arya WiFi supports WiFi streaming, Bluetooth 5.1 connectivity with SBC, AAC, aptX, aptX HD, and LDAC codecs, as well as wired USB-C playback.
Battery life is about 6.5 to 7.5 hours in WiFi mode and up to 23 hours over Bluetooth. Charging time is 3 to 4 hours, and standby time exceeds 30 days. The battery life gap between WiFi and Bluetooth reflects the higher power consumption of the former, a constraint inherent to the technology that future generations may perhaps reduce.
The Arya uses a Neo Super Nano diaphragm, more durable but less thin than that of the HE1000. Both headphones charge via USB-C and do not feature a 3.5 mm jack input.
Open-back construction and home use
The open-back architecture lets air and sound circulate through the earcups. This design widens the soundstage and improves spatial reproduction, but it also means zero acoustic isolation: sound leaks outward and ambient noise gets in. These are not headphones for commuting. They are designed for quiet listening environments, at home or in a private office.
The asymmetrical earpads follow the natural shape of the ear, and the redesigned headband is intended to distribute weight more evenly across the head.

Frequently Asked Questions
How does the WiFi connection work?
The headphones create their own WiFi network. On the smartphone or tablet, access the network settings, select the headphones’ network, and music can then be streamed from the usual audio apps. Setup is only required once per device.
Which streaming services are compatible?
Major audio streaming platforms, including Spotify and Qobuz, are supported by the Arya WiFi. Tidal, Apple Music, and Roon also work. Compatibility depends on the app rather than the headphones: any service accessible from the smartphone can send its audio stream to the headphones.
Can the Arya WiFi be used in wired-only mode?
Yes. The USB-C port allows a direct connection to a computer or compatible smartphone, and the headphones then operate like a standard USB DAC/amp. This option eliminates any wireless-related latency and offers unlimited battery life as long as the source device supplies power.
What is the difference between the Arya WiFi and the Arya Unveiled or Organic?
The Arya Unveiled and Arya Organic are passive headphones that require an audio source (DAC, amplifier) to operate. The Arya WiFi integrates all the electronics and works autonomously. The diaphragm also differs: the Arya WiFi uses the Neo Super Nano Gen.2 diaphragm, while the HE1000 WiFi uses the thinner Nano Diaphragm.
