Mofi Electronics SourcePoint 10 low stands (pack of 2)

With its SourcePoint 10 speakers, MoFi Electronics already offered a dedicated 56 cm tall steel stand. The Low Slung Stands take the opposite approach: they place the speakers a few centimetres off the floor, tilted upward, for listening from a low sofa or deep armchair. Sold in pairs, they are made from MDF and matched to the SourcePoint 10’s finish.

A geometry dictated by low-position listening

The tilt angle of the Low Slung Stands is anything but arbitrary. With a front height of 15.5 cm and a rear height of 9.1 cm, the resulting slope directs the axis of the SourcePoint 10’s concentric driver upward, toward the seated listener. This is a significant point with these speakers: their 1.25-inch soft dome tweeter, housed at the centre of the 25 cm woofer cone, operates as a point source. Alignment between the ear and this axis directly affects the coherence of the reproduction, the focus of the stereo image, and the perceived tonal balance in the high frequencies.

On standard 56 cm stands, the driver axis is aimed roughly at the ear height of a person seated in an upright chair. If your usual listening position is a deep sofa or low armchair, the tweeter fires above you. The Low Slung Stands correct this misalignment by bringing the whole assembly down to floor level and compensating with the tilt angle.

Construction and integration in the living room

The MDF structure matches the speakers’ finish (Satin Walnut or Satin Black Ash, depending on the chosen model). The footprint is 33 cm wide by 44.5 cm deep: enough to support the 21 kg of each SourcePoint 10 without wobbling. Rubber feet under the base provide grip and protect floors, whether hardwood, tile, or vinyl. MoFi also includes self-adhesive felt pads for surfaces that require them.

The visual result is very different from an installation on tall stands. The speakers appear to sit on the floor, almost like squat columns. In a living room where you want to minimise the visual footprint of a hi-fi system, this is an interesting compromise: the SourcePoint 10 are large speakers (57 × 37 × 42 cm, nearly 21 kg each), and the Low Slung Stands anchor them into the décor rather than putting them on display atop metal columns.

What changes when speakers are close to the floor

Placing a speaker close to the floor alters its acoustic behaviour. Floor reinforcement of bass frequencies (proximity effect or “boundary gain”) increases energy in the lower end of the spectrum. With the SourcePoint 10, whose response extends down to 42 Hz thanks to their 25 cm woofer and dual rear-firing bass-reflex port, the effect can result in a fuller, more substantial bass than when elevated. Depending on the room’s acoustics, this is either an advantage or an excess to be compensated for (placement, acoustic treatment, tone control on the amplifier).

The tilt partially compensates for the early reflections that floor proximity can introduce in the midrange and high frequencies. The angle redirects the tweeter’s energy toward the listener rather than toward the ceiling, preserving the clarity of the upper frequency range and the intelligibility of the soundstage.

Compatibility and limitations to be aware of

These stands are designed exclusively for the MoFi SourcePoint 10. Their dimensions, tilt angle, and top plate shape are matched to this speaker’s specifications. They are not suitable for the SourcePoint 8, the SourcePoint 888, or the V10 floorstanding model in the range.

The choice between low stands and tall stands is not purely a matter of aesthetics. If your primary listening position is an office chair or a seat with a sitting height above approximately 45 cm, the 56 cm steel tall stands remain the better option. The Low Slung Stands work best when the listener’s ear is between 80 and 100 cm from the floor, which corresponds to most living room sofas and armchairs.
