Loewe Radio Frequency

For its centenary, Loewe returns to what founded the brand in 1923: radio. Here, the German manufacturer presents a compact tabletop set that is both portable and refined, combining DAB+, FM, and Bluetooth streaming in a 1.2 kg enclosure dressed in basalt-gray acoustic fabric and Canadian oak inlays. A contemporary reinterpretation of the OE 333 receiver, the founding model of the Berlin-based company.

A nod to the OE 333 receiver

The enclosure reprises the visual codes of the Loewe OE 333, the brand’s first radio set marketed from 1926 onward. The solid oak inlays on the top and bottom evoke the exposed wooden cabinet of the original model, while the in-house-developed acoustic fabric, in a basalt shade, recalls the characteristic sides of this historic receiver. Each unit has its own natural wood grain, making every piece visually unique. The format remains compact: 21.1 × 13.2 × 6.8 cm for 1.2 kg, roughly the footprint of a slightly thick paperback book.

2.0 stereo in a reduced format

The acoustics are handled by two 2.5-inch (6.35 cm) active drivers paired with a passive membrane, all housed in a sealed design. Rated power reaches 14 W RMS, or 28 W in music power. The frequency response covers the standard audible range, from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and the user has separate bass and treble controls to adapt the sound to the listening environment. On a device of this size, left-right separation necessarily remains intimate at close range and fades as soon as you move away, as with any compact tabletop radio.

DAB+, DAB, and FM RDS reception

The digital tuner handles DAB and DAB+ on Band III (174.9 to 239.2 MHz). It includes the EWF (Emergency Warning Function), which relays emergency alerts broadcast by compatible DAB+ operators. In analog mode, the FM band (87.5 to 108 MHz) benefits from RDS for displaying the station name and program information. The telescopic antenna is fixed: there is no external antenna connector, but its length is sufficient in most home reception conditions.

Bluetooth 5.0 and headphone output

For the wireless connection, Bluetooth 5.0 supports the A2DP SNK profiles for audio streaming from a smartphone, tablet, or computer, as well as AVRCP for controlling play, pause, and track change commands from the radio. No high-resolution codec is announced: the standard SBC suits the intended use case (background radio, podcasts, playlists). A jack headphone output completes the connectivity for private listening, useful for not disturbing those around you late at night or early in the morning.

Up to fourteen hours of battery life

The integrated lithium-ion battery is rated at 7.4 V and 2200 mAh, for battery life of up to 14 hours depending on volume and usage mode. Charging is via a USB-C port compatible with Power Delivery, with a duration of about three hours for a full cycle. The radio can therefore be carried from one room to another, onto a terrace, into a workshop, or on the go without depending on a mains outlet. The EU, UK, and AUS adapters supplied as standard make it usable outside France without any additional purchase.

LCD screen and physical controls

The 2.7-inch (7 cm) LCD screen, with adjustable brightness, displays the time, the current station, and the entered settings. The controls are physical, with a multifunction rotary push-button that manages navigation, selection, and volume. No touchscreen, no dedicated mobile control app: everything is done from the device itself, with favorite stations stored by a long press on the preset button. The alarm function with snooze also makes it a practical bedside clock radio.

A Hotel mode for establishments

Loewe offers a specific Hotel mode, intended for deploying the radio in the rooms of professional establishments. This mode allows a room number to be configured, simplifies Bluetooth pairing for transient guests, and restricts access to certain settings to avoid accidental changes. A secure reset is provided between stays. This function remains invisible in standard home use, but explains why this model is chosen by some hotels.

Contents and accessories

The box includes the radio, a 90 cm USB-C cable, three USB-C mains adapters meeting European, British, and Australian standards, as well as user documentation. Design and development are carried out in Germany.
