Overview

Treating reverberation without creating visible depth on the wall: that is the design choice behind this fabric-faced absorber, whose aluminum frame slopes at 45 degrees beneath the fabric. The surface remains flat and clean, while the structure acts on sound propagation behind the fabric. The Line format, rectangular and elongated, covers large surfaces while maintaining uniform absorption over its entire height.

A 45-degree sloped aluminum frame

The panel’s technical signature lies in its frame. Made from aluminum, it features a face sloped at 45 degrees that disappears once the fabric is stretched over it. From the front, all you see is a smooth, even panel, with no edge or bulge. Behind it, the absorbent core in recycled PET (Sound PET acoustic foam, Euroclass B rated) captures sound energy.

The choice of aluminum is not just aesthetic. It makes installation simpler than with a wooden structure, stands firm against temperature and humidity variations, and allows for large formats without acoustic performance deteriorating at the edges. The Line benefits directly from this: at 178.5 cm long, it remains rigid and stable where a less robust structure would begin to warp.

Broad-band absorption from midrange to treble

The Line operates over a range from 315 to 5000 Hz, covering speech, most music, and traffic noise within a room. Its acoustic class B and weighted absorption coefficient (αw) of 0.8 place the panel among effective absorbers without being the most aggressive on the market: it calms reverberation and flutter echo, shortens reverberation time (RT), and makes speech clearer, without completely deadening the room.

This positioning makes sense in spaces where comfort and intelligibility are the goal rather than studio silence. A waiting room, corridor, or open-plan office gains in sonic clarity as soon as acoustic decay is reduced, and that is precisely the Line’s role.

Three fabrics depending on fire rating

The range comes in three fabric finishes, each corresponding to a level of fire safety and a different use. The Suede version falls under the Furniture Grade classification, the Felted version adds a fire rating (Fire Rated), and the Twill version combines the fire rating with compatibility for Covid-19 disinfection.

The latter deserves special attention. The Twill fabric withstands regular cleaning and disinfection with antibacterial and antiviral agents: alcohol-based solutions, bleach-based products, sterilizing sprays and wipes. Covid-19 Safe, cleanable compliance exists only with this finish. For a consultation room or medical room, it is the logical choice. Whatever the fabric, the frame can be ordered in aluminum, black, or white.

Spaces where noise is a real problem

Noise in hospital environments is a documented issue with real consequences. The sound levels recorded in today’s hospitals are among the highest ever measured and affect privacy, comfort, and stress for both patients and caregivers. The Line is aimed primarily at these spaces: intensive care units, emergency rooms, private rooms, consultation rooms, hospital departments and corridors, waiting rooms, and reception areas.

The panel also finds its place in wellness spaces, gyms, swimming pools, and spas, where acoustic comfort changes the overall feel of the space. The issue of hygiene, long specific to the healthcare sector, has expanded to many work environments; the Twill finish and Artnovion’s MEDLINE-Cleanable logic meet this need for disinfectable surfaces.

Line format and installation

The Line is the intermediate format in the range, between the square Quad (132 × 132 cm) and the Grand (132 × 240 cm). Its dimensions are 132 × 178.5 × 6 cm, with a controlled thickness of 6 centimeters that does not eat into the space. It can be installed on the wall or ceiling, depending on the treatment sought and the geometry of the room.

Its stretched fabric and relief-free surface pattern make it possible to align several panels to cover a large wall continuously, with a consistent visual result. This is one of the advantages of the concealed sloped frame: you get a streamlined finish where many absorbers display their thickness and edges.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between the Quad, Line, and Grand formats?

These are three sizes of the same panel. The Quad is square (132 × 132 cm), the Line is rectangular and elongated (132 × 178.5 cm), and the Grand is even longer (132 × 240 cm). The 6 cm thickness and acoustic design remain identical; only the surface area covered changes, making it possible to adjust the treatment to the size of the wall or ceiling.

Does the 45-degree angled frame improve absorption, or is it an aesthetic choice?

It is primarily a matter of appearance and structure. The beveled profile disappears beneath the fabric and creates that flat, uniform surface, with no visible edge. It also contributes to the panel’s rigidity and makes it possible to manufacture large, stable formats. The actual sound absorption comes from the PET core and the fabric on the front.

Can the Line be mounted on the ceiling?

Yes, wall and ceiling mounting is one of the intended uses. On the ceiling, the panel works like a cloud-style treatment to reduce reverberation from the upper part of the room, an approach that is useful in rooms with high ceilings or very reflective surfaces. For a suspended installation, suitable mounting and safety accessories must be provided.

What does an αw coefficient of 0.8 mean?

The weighted absorption coefficient sums up in a single figure, between 0 and 1, a material’s ability to absorb sound. At 0.8, the Line absorbs a large share of the sound energy that hits it over its effective range. This is a high value for a thin fabric-faced absorber, sufficient to seriously treat a room without making it completely dead.

What is the absorbent core made of?

Made from recycled PET acoustic foam, called Sound PET, with a Euroclass B fire rating. Recycled PET is a lightweight fibrous material that effectively traps mid and high frequencies, with the advantage of being made from recycled material rather than mineral wool.

Is the frame available in colors other than aluminum?

The frame is available in three standard finishes: raw aluminum, black, or white. For the fabric, Artnovion also offers an extended color catalog on request, in addition to the usual shades, to match the panel to a specific decor.
