Artnovion Chroma Plus - Panelling

Treating the acoustics of an office or reception hall without weighing down the decor remains a delicate exercise: unwanted reflections must be absorbed while keeping surfaces clean and uncluttered. Artnovion’s Chroma range meets this requirement with stretched-fabric panels that blend into the wall. The Plus - Panelling version takes the concept further by gaining two centimeters in thickness, which shifts its action lower in the spectrum.

Six centimeters to go lower

The difference from the standard Chroma - Panelling comes down to a single figure: 6 cm thick instead of 4. This extra depth pushes the panel’s lower limit down. Where the 40 mm model starts absorbing at around 400 Hz and tops out at acoustic class C (weighted sound absorption coefficient αw of 0.65), the Chroma Plus - Panelling works from 250 Hz and reaches class B, with an αw of 0.85.

These classes are read from A, the most absorbent, downward. Moving from C to B means that a clearly larger share of the sound energy hitting the panel is captured rather than reflected back into the room. Its useful range extends up to 5000 Hz, covering voice frequencies and most of the midrange and treble content. The very lowest bass frequencies, however, remain out of reach: this type of absorber does not replace a bass trap for controlling a room’s natural modes.

Stretched fabric on an aluminum frame

The visible face is an acoustic fabric stretched over a structural aluminum frame, beneath which sits a PET core rated Euroclass B. The fabric lets sound pass through to this core without breaking the flatness of the surface, hence the continuous look sought for large walls. The frame comes in aluminum, black, or white finish, and the mounting system is integrated into the panel. Each unit measures 80 × 119 cm and weighs about 8.4 kg, sold individually.

Three fabric families cover different needs. The Suede finish corresponds to the furniture classification (FG). The Felted finish provides a fire rating (FR). The Twill finish combines fire resistance with compatibility for disinfecting cleaning, a point that needs to be revisited below.

Where speech needs to remain clear

The panel is intended for spaces where conversations overlap and hard surfaces reflect sound: meeting rooms, conference rooms, open-plan workspaces, reception halls, auditoriums, hallways, and dining areas. By reducing reverberation time and controlling flutter echo, it makes speech more intelligible and lowers the overall sound level in an overly reverberant room.

Acoustic comfort in healthcare and wellness spaces is among the uses highlighted by Artnovion. Noise levels recorded in hospitals affect both patients’ rest and staff work, and a treated waiting room or corridor gains in perceived calm. Gyms, swimming pools, and spas, which are highly reflective by nature, follow the same logic.

Cleaning, hygiene, and fire resistance

It is the Twill finish that opens the door to the most demanding environments. Its fabric supports regular cleaning and disinfection, including with alcohol-based solutions, bleach-based products, and sterilizing wipes. This version belongs to the MEDLINE-Cleanable range and bears the Covid-19 Safe designation, reserved exclusively for this finish.

On the fire safety side, three classifications coexist depending on the chosen fabric: Furniture Grade (FG), Fire Rated (FR), and Fire Rated combined with Covid-19 compatibility (FR & Covid-19 Safe). The choice of fabric therefore determines both the possible maintenance and the level of fire resistance, a trade-off to be made upstream depending on the installation site.

Formats and finishes in the range

The Plus - Panelling is one format among others. The range also includes the Double SQR (119 × 119 cm) and Max (119 × 240 cm) versions, each available in 4 cm or 6 cm thickness, making it possible to create a consistent wall by mixing sizes. Beyond the standard colors, an extended custom color catalog is available on request, useful when the shade must match a precise visual identity.
