Overview

An 85-inch television does not cope well with van journeys, loading docks, and trade shows set up and dismantled in a single day. This multi-ply plywood case encloses it in foam supports, with its stand, remote control, and cables stored in a separate compartment. Lighter than the version with a wheeled base in the same range, it is carried by hand using four recessed metal handles.

A multi-ply case with reinforced edges

Multi-ply is plywood made from thin layers of wood bonded with alternating grain directions: it absorbs impacts, retains its shape over time, and holds screws much better than chipboard. Power Acoustics edges it with aluminium angle profiles along every edge, supplemented by corner reinforcements. All eight corners are capped with metal ball corners, which absorb impacts when the case hits a floor or a door frame and allow several flight cases to be stacked without sliding against one another.

The lid locks with four butterfly latches. These are latches recessed into the wall: you unfold the wing-shaped handle, turn it to tighten, then fold it flat. Nothing protrudes from the case once closed, so nothing catches on straps or other packages during loading. The finish combines black panels with silver aluminium, the usual look of stage equipment.

A screen secured in foam, with accessories kept separate

Inside, the screen rests between compact foam supports. Dense foam compresses very little, holding the panel without any play: it does not shift around inside the case at every turn or under braking, and transport vibrations are dampened before reaching the electronics.

A wooden board separates off a removable compartment dedicated to accessories. The stand, remote control, power cord, HDMI cables, or screws travel there without ever touching the panel, eliminating the most common risk during improvised transport: a hard object scraping against the screen and scratching or cracking it. Since this compartment can be removed, the space can be rearranged to suit what you are carrying.

Measure your television before sliding it inside

The case accommodates a screen up to 191.2 cm wide and 116.5 cm high, with a thickness of 7.3 cm. The first two dimensions cover most 85-inch televisions with slim bezels. Thickness is the measurement to watch: it is measured at the deepest point on the back of the unit, with the stand removed. Many recent OLED and LCD models stay within this limit, but some models with thicker backlighting or a protruding rear housing exceed it.

The name indicates the intended size range, from 75 to 85 inches. With a 75-inch model, the panel takes up less space than the case provides: it is best to check how securely it is held before the first journey and add extra supports if the screen moves.

Four handles and no wheels: plan for handling

Empty, the case weighs 65 kg and measures 205.4 × 24.8 × 122.5 cm overall. Once the television and its accessories are inside, it is carried by four people, one person per handle. The handles are recessed and made of metal: they fold into the wall when not in use and support the load without bending.

The difference from the Flight Ecran 75/85 in the same range comes down to this specific point. The latter has twelve handles and a base with four integrated castors, weighs 70 kg, and accommodates screens up to 10 cm thick. The SR version dispenses with the wheeled base, saves 5 kg, and is limited to a screen thickness of 7.3 cm. It suits uses where the case mainly travels from the vehicle to the installation location along a few metres of corridor, or remains in storage between outings. For longer distances on site, a flatbed trolley or the wheeled version avoids having to carry more than 100 kg for extended periods.

At 24.8 cm thick, the case fits edge-on through a standard door, and its 205 cm length fits in most commercial vans. Events, audiovisual equipment hire, trade shows, display screens moved from one site to another, moving premises, or returning to the workshop: wherever a large screen leaves its cabinet, the case avoids the need for the original packaging, which is rarely kept and designed for a single journey.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the TV be transported with its stand or wall mount attached?

No. The case accommodates a maximum thickness of 7.3 cm, which corresponds to a bare panel. The stand can be detached and stored in the accessory compartment. A wall mount attached to the back adds several centimetres: it must be removed before placing the screen in the protective inserts.

Does this flight case protect against rain?

It protects against impacts and dust, not water. Power Acoustics offers a separate range of IP65 cases, which this model does not belong to. When loading in the rain, covering the case with a tarpaulin or moving it quickly under cover is still advisable, as wood and foam do not tolerate prolonged moisture well.

Is there a version for two screens?

Yes, the Flight Ecran DB 75/85 from Power Acoustics accommodates two flat-panel screens up to 85 inches along with their accessories. It features a base with four casters, two with brakes, and eight handles, but weighs 85 kg when empty.

Can the speaker cabinet be moved without carrying it?

The SR version does not have castors. A flat transport dolly beneath the case allows it to be rolled on hard surfaces. For use where the case is moved frequently, the standard Flight Ecran 75/85 has a built-in platform with four castors.

Can you transport anything other than a television in it?

Any flat screen within the maximum dimensions will fit: a professional monitor, digital signage display or touchscreen presentation panel. The criterion remains the same, including thickness, and the removable compartment holds the cables and remote controls for each device.

Is the case suitable for storing a screen for several months?

Yes, provided it is stored in a dry room at a moderate temperature, with the latches locked. The foam holds the screen in place without excessive pressure, and the closed lid protects it from dust. It is best to store the case in the position where the screen is supported by its padding, and to avoid placing heavy loads on the lid unless it is stacked with other flight cases with ball corners.

How should weight be distributed when loading a vehicle?

The crate should be loaded flush against a wall or other heavy packages, then strapped to the vehicle’s tie-down points. A crate that is free to slide during braking is far more likely to damage its contents than a drop of a few centimetres, even with careful internal bracing.
