Power Acoustics Flight screen 75/85

An 85-inch television measures nearly two meters wide, weighs several dozen kilos and is particularly vulnerable to impacts on the corners of its panel. To take it to a trade show, deliver it to a customer or store it between events, Power Acoustics offers a multi-ply plywood case mounted on casters. A separate compartment holds the stand, cables and remote control.

A multi-ply case reinforced at every corner

Multi-ply plywood is made from thin layers of wood bonded with alternating grain directions. It remains rigid under load and withstands knocks without splitting, which is why it is commonly used in professional flight cases. Each edge is protected by an aluminum angle profile, supplemented by corner reinforcements, and the corners are fitted with metal ball corners. These ball corners absorb impacts instead of the wood when the case hits a wall or a tailgate, and provide support when several cases are stacked. The case closes with four butterfly latches operated by hand, without tools. The whole case is finished in black, with the metal parts left silver.

The screen on one side, its accessories on the other

Inside, a removable wooden board divides the case into two compartments. The screen sits on one side, held by dense foam blocks that prevent it from moving while the case is wheeled around. The other side holds everything that goes with it: the dismantled stand or mount with its screws, remote control, power cord, HDMI cables. As the divider is removable, the interior can be rearranged to suit what is being transported.

The cavity accommodates a screen measuring up to 1910 mm wide, 1200 mm high and 100 mm thick. These dimensions cover most 75- and 85-inch televisions, provided they are measured without their stands, since the 100 mm thickness limit means the stand must be removed before packing the screen in the case. Power Acoustics mentions plasma and LED screens. Thinner OLED models fit within the same dimensions, and the brand includes some in its compatibility list.

Twelve handles and a caster platform for a 70 kg empty weight

Empty, the case weighs 70 kg. Once the television and its accessories are inside, the total commonly exceeds a hundred kilos, which is where the twelve recessed metal handles come into their own. Positioned around the case, they allow two to four people to carry the load without getting in each other’s way, and their recessed mounting prevents any protrusions from catching on another package in a truck. On level ground, the platform fitted with four integrated casters is enough to push the whole assembly; steps, curbs and loading, however, require lifting by hand or a tail lift.

With overall dimensions of 2052 x 1225 x 248 mm, the case carries the screen upright, on its edge, just as in its original box. Its width of less than 25 cm allows it to roll through a standard doorway and be stored along the side wall of a van, but its length of more than two meters rules out a car trunk.

Trade shows, rentals and screen relocations

This format is used by audiovisual equipment rental companies, exhibitors who set up a stand several times a year, installers moving a demonstration screen, or private individuals moving a large television whose packaging they no longer have. An 85-inch television’s cardboard box does not hold up well beyond one or two trips, whereas the case protects the screen on every outing and provides upright storage between uses.
