Overview

A 65-inch television does not travel well in a car trunk, let alone the cargo bay of a touring truck. This multi-ply plywood flight case keeps it upright between foam blocks, stores its cables and remote control in a separate compartment, then closes with four butterfly latches. Lighter than the wheeled model in the same range, it can be carried by two people using its recessed handles and stacked thanks to its metal corners.

Multi-ply plywood and aluminum along every edge

The walls are made of multi-ply plywood: thin layers of wood glued together with alternating grain directions, creating a rigid panel that does not split under impact and moves far less than a solid wood board when humidity changes. The edges are protected by aluminum angle profiles, which withstand rubbing against door frames and loading ramps, and each corner has a reinforcement topped with a metal ball corner. These rounded corners absorb impacts at the corners, the most exposed area during handling, and provide support when stacking several flight cases. The closure uses four butterfly latches: turn the wing to lock the opening panel, then fold it back into its recess so it does not protrude from the wall. The case has a black finish, accented by the silver of the angle profiles and metal fittings.

A 65-inch screen without its stand, secured in foam

The interior accommodates a flat screen up to 1685 mm wide, 884 mm high and 73 mm thick. A 65-inch screen with a 16:9 aspect ratio measures approximately 1.45 m wide and just over 80 cm high once its stand is removed, so there is room to spare in both width and height. Thickness is the real deciding factor: 73 mm accommodates OLED televisions and most slim LED models, whereas some screens with thicker backlighting exceed this dimension at the rear. The stand must always be removed before transport.

Inside, dense foam blocks hold the screen by its edges and absorb road vibrations without pressing against the panel. A removable wooden divider creates a compartment for the stand, remote control, power cord and HDMI cables, so everything travels in the same case and nothing rubs against the screen. When this compartment is not needed, the divider can be removed.

Everyday carrying, loading and stacking

Empty, the flight case weighs 44 kg. A 65-inch television without its stand generally adds between 18 and 30 kg depending on the technology, bringing the total to around 65 to 75 kg: it takes two people to move it, each holding one end. The four metal handles are recessed into the walls, so they do not catch on doorways and leave the sides flat, making it easier to slide the case into a van and stack it.

At 247 mm deep, 1779 mm long and 944 mm high, the flight case fits through standard doorways and can be stored upright against a vehicle wall, secured with straps, taking up little floor space. This size suits event service providers installing screens at trade shows as well as installers delivering a television, equipment rental companies or individuals moving house who want their screen to arrive intact. The flight case has no wheels: over long distances on level ground, a handling trolley takes the strain out of carrying.

The SR or the Flight Ecran 65 MK2?

Power Acoustics offers two flight cases for a single 65-inch screen, with very similar external dimensions. The Flight Ecran 65 MK2 sits on a base with four integrated casters, has twelve handles and accommodates screens up to 100 mm thick, with an empty weight of 60 kg. The SR dispenses with the wheeled base and some of the handles to bring its weight down to 44 kg, with screen thickness limited to 73 mm. The MK2 caters to televisions with thicker backs and journeys where the flight case is wheeled over long distances; the SR suits slim screens carried by two people and regularly loaded into a vehicle, where every kilogram saved makes a difference.

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I check that my TV fits in the flight case?

Refer to the “without stand” dimensions listed in your TV’s technical specifications: the width must be under 1685 mm, the height under 884 mm and the depth under 73 mm. The depth stated by manufacturers corresponds to the thickest part of the back, where the electronics and connectors are housed, and that is what matters, not the thickness of the panel’s edge. Power Acoustics also maintains a compatibility guide listing TV models verified with its flight cases.

Can you transport a 55-inch TV in it?

It’s physically possible, but a 55-inch screen is approximately 1.23 m wide, which is over 45 cm less than the available space. Foam blocks won’t necessarily make up for such a gap, and a screen that moves around in its case loses much of the protection provided by the flight case. It’s better to choose a flight case sized for the screen.

Does the flight case protect against rain?

The plywood walls and butterfly latches protect against impacts, dust and occasional splashes during loading, but this flight case is not waterproof. For equipment exposed to the elements for extended periods, Power Acoustics develops a separate range of flight cases with IP65 certification, meaning they are protected against dust and water jets.

Why transport the screen upright rather than flat?

A large screen panel is thin and flexible. When laid flat, it bends under its own weight and as a result of jolts, which can crack the panel or damage the internal layers. For this reason, television manufacturers recommend transporting it upright, in its operating position, and this is the position enforced by the flight case.

Can multiple flight cases be stacked during transport?

Yes, the metal ball corners and recessed handles are designed for stacking. Place the heaviest cases at the bottom, keep the screen flight case upright as originally designed (standing on its long side) rather than lying flat on a stack, and strap everything down in the vehicle to prevent any sliding when braking.

Is the flight case suitable for long-term storage?

Yes. When closed, it keeps dust and impacts at bay during the months when the screen is not in use, whether in a storage room or a self-storage unit. Store it upright in a dry room at a moderate temperature, and leave the power cord and remote control in their compartment so everything is together when it’s time to reinstall it.

Is there a version for two screens?

Power Acoustics offers a Flight Double Ecran 65 that holds two 65-inch televisions in the same case, a solution that saves space in a truck when several screens travel together, at the cost of significantly more weight to carry.
