Power Acoustics Flight screen 50 SR
Overview
Moving a television without its original box quickly becomes a gamble, whether into a van, onto a trade show stand or into a reception hall. This Power Acoustics flight case encloses the screen in a rigid multi-ply plywood case, cushioned by dense foam, with a separate space for cables and the remote control. More compact and lighter than the range’s MK2 version, it can be carried by two people using its four recessed handles.
Multi-ply plywood and aluminium reinforcements
A flight case is a rigid transport case originating in the touring and live entertainment world, built to withstand repeated loading into trucks and rough handling. Power Acoustics follows all the established conventions. The panels are made from multi-ply plywood, an assembly of thin sheets of wood glued with alternating grain directions that resists puncturing and deformation better than chipboard. The edges are lined with aluminium angle profiles, while the corners feature reinforcements and metal ball corners, the areas that take the impact when the case hits a door frame or a vehicle floor.
Inside, dense foam blocks hold the screen securely without play and absorb road vibrations. Four butterfly latches lock the lid and open by hand, without tools. The finish combines the black panels with the silver aluminium.
Dimensions to check before sliding a screen inside
The compartment accommodates a screen measuring up to 1,235 mm wide, 900 mm high and 73 mm thick. The “50-inch” designation gives a rough idea, but these three dimensions are what determine the fit. A 55-inch picture in 16:9 format alone measures approximately 1,218 mm wide: a 55-inch television with very thin bezels will therefore just fit, whereas a model with a wider frame will not.
Thickness is the most restrictive dimension. The stand must be removed, and the measurement taken at the television’s thickest point, often the electronics housing at the bottom of the back on very thin screens, rather than along the top edge. Some LCD televisions exceed 73 mm once the stand has been removed: using a tape measure before buying avoids an unpleasant surprise.
The flight case is not limited to televisions. A professional monitor or a trade show digital signage display will fit as long as its dimensions remain within these limits.
A removable compartment for cables and accessories
A wooden board divides the interior in two: the screen on one side, and a compartment on the other for the items that go with it, mains lead, HDMI cables, remote control, mounting hardware. Everything travels in the same case, avoiding arrival at an installation site without the cable you need. The partition also provides protection: no hard object can press against the panel during the journey. This board can be removed when the interior layout needs to change.
Carrying, loading, stacking: the weight of a compact flight case
Empty, the case weighs 36.5 kg and measures 1,388 mm wide, 972 mm high and 203 mm deep, with the television’s weight added on top. It is carried by two people using the four recessed metal handles. Being recessed, they do not protrude from the sides, allowing the case to sit flush against a wall or another case inside a vehicle. The metal ball corners allow several flight cases to be stacked.
The comparison with the MK2 version helps clarify the choice. The latter accommodates larger screens (up to 1,401 mm wide and 140 mm thick), has a base with four integrated castors and twelve handles, but weighs 51 kg and measures 1,549 mm wide. The SR model saves nearly 15 kg and 16 cm in width, which matters when loading a van or passing through a doorway. The trade-off: it must be carried rather than rolled, which requires two people over long distances on foot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Should the TV stand be removed before storing it?
Yes. With 73 mm of usable depth, the compartment only accommodates the panel itself. The detached stand can travel in the separate compartment if its dimensions allow, otherwise in a separate bag.
Does the flight case protect against rain?
It protects against impacts and vibrations, not the elements. Power Acoustics offers a separate range of IP65 waterproof flight cases, which does not include this model. For unloading in the rain, a tarpaulin is still useful.
Can it be checked in as luggage on a plane?
Not easily. Its three dimensions add up to approximately 256 cm, well beyond the 158 cm commonly allowed for checked baggage, and its empty weight exceeds the 32 kg limit imposed by most airlines. Freight shipping or road transport remains the standard option.
Which way should the screen be transported?
TV manufacturers generally recommend transporting TVs upright, with the panel resting on its bottom edge. The flight case’s tall, shallow shape supports this: it is better to keep it upright during transport rather than lay it flat beneath other loads.
Can a smaller screen, for example a 43-inch one, be transported in it?
It fits, but it moves around. The foam inserts are designed for a screen close to the maximum dimensions, and a significantly smaller model has room to move, leaving it exposed to impacts inside. Adding foam to fill the space reduces this risk.
What weight should be expected once the case is loaded?
You need to account for the crate’s 36.5 kg, plus the television and its accessories. With a 50- or 55-inch screen, the total often exceeds 50 kg, so it is advisable to have two people and a hand truck for longer distances.
