Overview

A 100-inch television cannot be moved like a 55-inch one. Its panel is over two metres wide, several people are needed to lift it, and a twist during loading is enough to crack it. This Power Acoustics flight case holds a single flat screen, from 90 to 100 inches, in a multi-ply plywood case mounted on castors. A separate compartment holds the stand, cables and remote control.

A multi-ply case sized for very large screens

The body of the flight case is made of multi-ply plywood: cross-layered, glued sheets of wood that absorb impacts and retain their shape where a chipboard panel would eventually swell or split. Each edge is protected by a profiled aluminium angle, supplemented by corner reinforcements. All eight corners have metal ball corners, which take the knocks during handling and make the cases easier to stack. The finish combines black-coated wood with silver-coloured metal parts.

The unit measures 2370 mm long, 1400 mm high and 460 mm deep, and weighs 70 kg empty. This weight reflects the strength of the structure: the flight case remains rigid even when lifted at one end.

A screen transported upright, on castors

The dimensions show how the screen travels: resting on its long edge, upright. This is the position required by television manufacturers. When laid flat, a panel of this size bends under its own weight, and this bending is enough to damage the glass or the screen’s internal layers.

The case rests on a base fitted with four integrated castors. It can be pushed along a corridor, up a loading ramp or through an exhibition hall without being carried. Its 46 cm depth fits through a standard internal doorway, with the case rolling lengthways. It is the 2.37 m length that causes problems in narrow stairwells and dictates the choice of vehicle.

Twelve handles for a heavy unit

Once the television is installed, the unit weighs well over a hundred kilos. Power Acoustics has therefore distributed twelve metal handles across the sides of the case. They are recessed: when folded away, they do not catch on anything or add a single centimetre to the dimensions. Four people can thus lift the flight case together to load it into a van or negotiate a step, each with a firm grip.

The case is secured by four butterfly latches. The key folds out, is turned a quarter turn, then folds back into its recess. The system can be operated without tools and remains protected from impacts once folded down.

Foam cushioning and accessory storage

Inside, the screen is held in place by firm foam blocks. Dense foam does not compress under the weight of the panel and absorbs road vibrations. As the same flight case accommodates screens from 90 to 100 inches, the space left around the panel varies from one model to another. With a 90-inch screen, more blocks need to be distributed around it so that the screen cannot move.

A wooden board separates the screen section from a compartment reserved for accessories: the dismantled stand, wall mount, cables, remote control and screws. Nothing therefore travels loose against the panel. The compartment is removable, allowing the space to be reorganised according to what is being transported.

Check the overall width before the diagonal

Power Acoustics specifies a maximum screen width of 2240 mm, and this is the deciding factor, more than the stated diagonal. A 100-inch 16:9 screen displays an image approximately 2.21 m wide. Once the frame is added, there is sometimes only one or two centimetres of clearance left. Before ordering, you therefore need to check the overall width on the television or monitor’s technical specifications, including the frame but without the stand.

The size suggests its uses: equipment rental for events, exhibition stands, installers delivering giant screens, or individuals moving house with a very large television who want to protect it better than with a cardboard box.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will a 98-inch OLED or Mini LED TV fit in this flight case?

Panel technology makes no difference; only the dimensions matter. A 98-inch 16:9 screen has an image width of approximately 2.17 m: with a thin bezel, it remains below the 2240 mm limit. The same check applies to a professional display monitor. The value to compare is always the overall width provided by the screen manufacturer.

Can the stand be left attached to the TV?

No. The feet and central stand bases of large TVs extend several centimetres below the panel and towards the back. They would prevent the screen from resting flat against the spacers. They are removed and stored in the separate compartment, with their screws in a bag.

What vehicle will be needed?

A van with a load length of over 2.40 m and a usable height of at least 1.40 m to keep the screen upright. Once loaded, the flight case must be strapped against a wall: the castors that make handling easier would cause it to slide the first time you brake.

Does the flight case protect against rain?

No waterproof rating is specified for this model. The plywood and butterfly latches withstand rain showers during quick loading. For prolonged outdoor storage or uncovered transport, a tarpaulin must be added.

What is the advantage over the TV's original box?

The cardboard box and its polystyrene inserts are enough for a single delivery, but they lose their shape after a few rounds of handling and withstand neither moisture nor repeated impacts. The flight case can be reused for years, rolls instead of being carried, and stores accessories in the same case. For a screen that goes out several times a year, the difference quickly becomes apparent.

Should the front of the screen be protected before closing the flight case?

It is recommended. The foam holds the screen in place, but the front surface of a panel remains sensitive to friction. A soft cover or a lint-free cloth placed over the screen prevents micro-scratches, especially on anti-glare coatings.

Is there a version for two screens or for smaller sizes?

Yes. Power Acoustics offers the same construction in the Flight Double Écran 90/100, which carries two screens of this size in a single case, and in versions for 50, 65 and 75/85-inch screens.
