Overview
The SP-CD300 marries the most modern digital technology, such as Burr Brown’s 1792 D/A converters, with a meticulously crafted tube output stage. This gem lives up to the expectations raised by the sober and warm nostalgic look of Cayin’s SP line. On the test benches (stereoplay 5/08), it impresses with its timbre but also with numerous small construction details such as the audible warning that sounds, for example, when children fiddle with the toggle switches.
This player harmonizes perfectly with the SP-10A integrated amplifier, obviously in terms of design but especially in terms of musical result. In terms of connectivity, it also has balanced XLR inputs. When you connect the player to the amplifier using the RCA outputs, the connection is made via gold-plated sockets with separation transformers for galvanic decoupling, ensuring optimal signal transport. With an aluminum body and wood veneer, the remote control perfectly matches the design of the electronics.
For its SP line, Cayin has chosen its own path. The SP-CD300 presents the music on a very wide soundstage, but has managed to retain the warm sound of the good old days. Thus, the retro look does not become the goal, but rises to the rank of a symbol of an individual lifestyle. Wood, individualists have the right to demand it at Cayin.
