Sony Bravia Theatre (Soundbars)

Sony groups its soundbars under the Bravia Theatre banner. The common thread across the range is 360 Spatial Sound Mapping, an in-house technology that places virtual speakers around the listener and reflects sound off the walls and ceiling. This delivers immersive sound from a single device, without multiplying physical speakers.

The range is available at several levels. The Bar 5 opens the lineup with a 3.1 configuration and a wireless subwoofer included as standard, at €399. The Bar 7 adds upward-firing speakers for genuine Dolby Atmos height effects. Above that, the Bar 8 and Bar 9 feature eleven and thirteen speakers respectively, with deeper bass and a wider soundstage; the Bar 9, the high-end model, is available for around €849.

All these models support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X and can be calibrated to the room’s acoustics via the Bravia Connect app. Connected to a Bravia TV, they use the screen as a centre channel and enhance dialogue clarity with Voice Zoom 3. Each soundbar supports the addition of a wireless subwoofer and rear speakers, allowing you to go from a standalone soundbar to a complete surround setup.
