About Sony
Sony was founded in 1946 in Japan by Masaru Ibuka and Akio Morita under the name Tokyo Tsushin Kogyo. The company adopted the name “Sony” in 1958, combining the words “sonus” (sound) and “sonny” (little boy). Sony quickly stood out for its technological innovations, particularly in the field of transistors.
Over the decades, Sony introduced numerous groundbreaking products such as the Walkman (1979), the compact disc (1982), and the PlayStation (1994). The company also diversified into the entertainment industry by acquiring CBS Records and Columbia Pictures in the 1980s.
