The Lumene Coliseum UHD 4K is a motorized projection screen with lateral tension, designed for home theater installations. It features a tensioning system aimed at keeping the projection surface flat over time. This model offers various sizes and screen types to suit different environments and installation needs. It is compatible with home automation control systems and includes a motorized mechanism for automated deployment.
The heart of the Coliseum UHD 4K’s innovation lies in its sophisticated tensioning mechanism. Unlike standard motorized screens that may develop ripples or sagging over time, this model uses an ingenious lateral cable system. The screen is fitted with small, discreet eyelets along its left and right edges, through which steel cables run to maintain constant, even tension across the entire surface.
This mechanical system ensures millimeter-perfect flatness, which is essential for 4K and 8K image projection. Even the slightest deformation of the screen can cause geometric distortions, especially noticeable during camera movements or tracking shots. The fine adjustment of this tension is made during installation and remains stable throughout the screen’s lifespan, permanently eliminating the waves or creases that affect non-tensioned screens.
Optimal tension also keeps the screen perfectly vertical, a crucial parameter for modern projectors whose optics are designed for a perpendicular projection surface. This feature becomes even more critical with 4K projectors, where the slightest deviation can affect image sharpness in certain areas of the screen.
Innovation doesn’t stop at the tensioning system. Lumene has developed a next-generation tubular motor specifically for its premium ranges, called the Silent Motor. With a noise level below 35 decibels, it is twice as quiet as a standard screen motor, allowing you to deploy or retract the screen without disturbing the immersive atmosphere of a movie session.
Beyond its quiet operation, this motor features an optimized braking system that significantly extends its lifespan. The progressive braking mechanism prevents jolts at the end of travel, thus preserving both the mechanics and the screen. This technology also allows for millimeter-precise positioning, especially appreciated with the remote control, which offers fine adjustment of the screen’s position.
The Silent Motor’s reliability is based on industrial-grade components and robust design. The motor is housed in an aluminum casing that protects it from dust and temperature fluctuations. Its power consumption remains modest, with smart standby reducing usage to less than one watt when not in operation.
The Coliseum UHD 4K comes with several screen options, each optimized for specific projection conditions. The standard UHD 4K screen offers a gain of 1.0 with a 160° viewing angle, ensuring faithful color reproduction and exemplary brightness uniformity across the entire surface. Its surface treatment eliminates hot spots while maintaining an invisible texture, even for close-up projection.
The Platinum version represents the technological pinnacle, with its micro-beaded “Textureless” surface offering a gain of 1.3. This 30% increase in brightness allows the use of less powerful projectors or achieves brighter images in rooms with some ambient light. The slightly reduced viewing angle of 130° is still more than sufficient for most room setups.
For purists seeking to replicate professional cinema installations, the Acoustic (acoustically transparent) screen allows speakers to be placed behind the screen. Woven with extreme precision, it features 92,000 micropores per 10 cm², ensuring remarkable acoustic transparency with less than 1.5 dB attenuation across the entire audible spectrum. This screen remains 4K compatible despite its perforated structure.
The installation of the Coliseum UHD 4K has been designed to be accessible to as many users as possible. The quick-clip mounting system revolutionizes the setup of motorized screens. No more hours of drilling and alignment: the clips adapt to different spacings and allow for wall or ceiling mounting in under an hour.
The black lacquered aluminum casing directly incorporates reinforced mounting points. Hooks are also provided for ceiling suspension, an ideal solution for rooms with plasterboard walls or for temporary installations. The system offers great flexibility in anchor point placement, making installation easier in converted attics or rooms with unusual layouts.
The screen is delivered pre-assembled and pre-adjusted at the factory. Only the attachment to the support requires user intervention. A drilling template is provided to ensure perfect alignment, and the detailed French manual guides you step by step through the installation. The total weight (20 to 30 kg depending on size) remains reasonable for handling by two people.
The Coliseum UHD 4K naturally integrates into sophisticated home theater setups thanks to its comprehensive connectivity. The RS232 port allows integration with all home automation systems on the market (Control4, Crestron, KNX, etc.). Available commands include deployment, retraction, and precise positioning of the screen.
The 12V trigger with its 10-meter cable allows the screen to automatically synchronize with the projector’s power-on. This function, now essential in modern setups, eliminates the need to manage multiple remotes and automates system startup. A wireless trigger is also available as an option for installations where cable routing is an issue.
The included infrared remote offers advanced functions such as fine position adjustment and memorization of preset heights. An external IR receiver is included, allowing the screen to be concealed in a false ceiling while maintaining remote control. For complex installations, multiple screens can be controlled independently thanks to differentiated IR codes.
The Coliseum UHD 4K’s casing reflects the attention paid to build quality. Aluminum was chosen for its many advantages: lightweight for easy installation, rigidity to prevent deformation, and corrosion resistance for exceptional longevity. The matte black lacquer finish blends discreetly into any interior.
The casing remains compact (14 cm in diameter) despite housing the tensioning system and Silent Motor. This compactness allows installation even in tight spaces or low false ceilings. The special anti-dust lacquer makes maintenance easy and keeps the screen looking new for years.
Assembly prioritizes durability, with stainless steel fasteners and seals protecting the internal mechanisms. Each screen undergoes rigorous quality control at the end of production, including up/down cycles and a check of the screen’s flatness. This commitment to quality results in an exceptionally low after-sales return rate.
The Coliseum UHD 4K has been designed to work perfectly with all types of long-throw projectors, whether they use LCD, DLP, or even LCoS technology. The moderate gain and wide viewing angle ensure faithful reproduction of the projected image’s characteristics, with no color distortion or central hot spot.
The matte surface completely eliminates stray reflections that can occur with some very bright projectors. This feature becomes crucial with modern laser projectors, whose light output often exceeds 3,000 lumens. The screen’s structure remains invisible even with native 4K projectors, whose resolution reveals the slightest imperfection in the projection surface.
The only limitation: ultra-short throw projectors (UST) are not compatible with this range. These projectors require specific screens with a particular optical structure, which Lumene offers in its Eden Extra Bright UST range. For all other types of projectors, from entry-level models to professional projectors, the Coliseum UHD 4K is the ideal companion.
The Platinum version stands out with its micro-beaded screen surface offering a gain of 1.3 compared to 1.0 for the standard version. This “Textureless” screen increases perceived brightness by 30% while maintaining an ultra-smooth surface optimized for 4K and 8K projection. The viewing angle decreases from 160° to 130°, which is still more than sufficient for most setups. The additional cost of the Platinum version is justified for medium-brightness projectors or rooms with some ambient light.
The system uses steel cables that run through eyelets along the screen’s side edges. These cables are connected to an adjustable tensioning mechanism built into the casing. When deployed, the cables maintain constant lateral tension, preventing any sagging or waves. This mechanical system requires no maintenance and remains effective throughout the screen’s lifespan, ensuring perfect flatness year after year.
The choice depends on viewing distance and projector resolution. For optimal 4K experience, the ideal distance is between 1.5 and 2 times the image width. For a 240C screen (234 cm image width), the recommended viewing distance is 3.5 to 4.7 meters. Available models range from 200C (203 cm) to 400C (400 cm), covering diagonals from 92 to 180 inches. Don’t hesitate to opt for a generous size: the immersion will only be better.
Yes, the Coliseum UHD 4K screen has a black backing that completely blocks light. This feature allows installation in front of a bay window with no light leakage. The screen drops low enough (extra drop) to fully cover the window. When retracted, the screen completely frees up the opening. It’s an elegant solution for living spaces that transform into a home theater in the evening.
The Lumene Silent Motor emits less than 35 decibels, equivalent to a whisper. This performance makes it twice as quiet as a standard screen motor. The residual noise mainly comes from the screen unrolling, not the motor itself. In practice, deploying the screen does not disturb a normal conversation and is completely imperceptible once the movie soundtrack starts.
The integrated RS232 port allows direct connection to all professional home automation systems. Standard commands (up, down, stop, preset position) are documented in the manual. For simpler systems, the 12V trigger input enables automatic activation synchronized with the projector. The infrared remote remains available as a backup, with the option to teach the codes to a universal remote.
The Silent Motor is designed for over 10,000 full cycles, or about 15 years of daily use. Its optimized braking system and robust design ensure this longevity. The screen, thanks to its anti-UV and anti-yellowing treatments, maintains its optical properties for at least 10 years. Lumene offers a 2-year warranty on the entire product, reflecting confidence in its reliability.
