The Triangle IWT7 in-wall speaker is a two-way model from the Secret range. Designed for discreet wall installation, it combines integration-friendly design with technical features aimed at delivering balanced sound reproduction.
The Triangle IWT7 is built around a carefully balanced two-way configuration. The 170 mm polypropylene mid-bass driver ensures natural, articulate reproduction of the mid and low registers. This diaphragm, developed in-house by Triangle at its Soissons workshops, offers optimal rigidity to minimise distortion while remaining light enough to preserve dynamics.
The 25 mm silk dome tweeter is the second key element of this configuration. Its pivoting design allows you to adjust high-frequency directivity according to the room layout and listening position. This feature, typically reserved for higher-end speakers, reflects the attention to detail of the Picardy-based manufacturer.
Frequency response extends from 60 Hz to 20 kHz (±3 dB), thus covering the essentials of the audible spectrum with remarkable linearity for an in-wall speaker in this category. This bandwidth ensures a complete rendering, from the deepest fundamentals to the most crystalline harmonics.
One of the IWT7’s major strengths lies in its adjustability. Two independent switches allow you to set the level of the tweeter and the mid-bass, each offering an attenuation of -3 dB relative to the reference level. This dual control lets you fine-tune the sonic signature to the acoustic characteristics of the listening space.
In rooms with highly reflective surfaces, attenuating the tweeter helps tame excessive brightness. Conversely, in a heavily damped environment, maintaining the nominal level ensures sufficient presence in the high frequencies. This flexibility makes the IWT7 a versatile solution, equally at home in a cosy living room or in commercial spaces with specific acoustic constraints.
The IWT7’s installation reflects Triangle’s commitment to making in-wall hi-fi accessible. The speaker requires a rectangular cutout of 271 × 168 mm with a minimum mounting depth of 87 mm. These compact dimensions make integration easy in most standard partitions, whether plasterboard or thicker materials.
The mounting system, developed by Triangle, ensures secure fixing while remaining accessible to non-professional installers. Six front-facing screws deploy the clamping mechanism that presses the speaker against the wall from the inside. This design avoids any visible protrusion and guarantees long-term stability.
The supplied ultra-thin magnetic grille provides the finishing touch to this discreet integration. Its screwless attachment preserves the clean aesthetics, while its white surface can be painted to blend perfectly with your interior decor. The grille’s minimal thickness limits its impact on sound dispersion, preserving the system’s acoustic transparency.
With a sensitivity of 91 dB for 1 watt at 1 metre, the IWT7 delivers high efficiency, making it compatible with a wide range of amplifiers. This efficiency allows comfortable listening levels even with modestly powered amps, while offering power handling up to 140 watts for more ambitious setups.
The nominal impedance of 8 ohms, with a minimum of 7.1 ohms, ensures a stable electrical load for the amplifier. This often-overlooked spec guarantees universal compatibility with virtually all hi-fi and home theater amplifiers on the market, without the risk of overload or distortion associated with very low impedance.
The modest weight of 1.7 kg per speaker makes handling easier during installation while attesting to the quality of the materials used. Ferrite magnets and treated steel baskets ensure the mechanical stability essential for precise sound reproduction.
The IWT7 naturally finds its place in multiple audio configurations. In a stereo setup, a properly positioned pair of IWT7s offers a coherent soundstage and precise imaging. The ability to aim the tweeters helps optimise focus on the primary listening position.
In a multichannel home theater system, the IWT7s excel particularly as side or rear surround speakers. Their ability to deliver precise, enveloping effects helps create the three-dimensional sound field sought in 5.1, 7.1, or even Dolby Atmos systems when paired with in-ceiling models from the Secret range.
Commercial spaces and public venues are also a natural fit for the IWT7. Its visual discretion satisfies strict architectural constraints, while its acoustic performance ensures quality sound distribution, whether for background music or voice announcements.
The IWT8 features a 200 mm mid-bass driver versus 170 mm for the IWT7, delivering deeper low-frequency extension (40 Hz versus 60 Hz) and higher power handling (160 W versus 140 W). The IWT8 is better suited to large rooms or when a more substantial low-end is desired, while the IWT7 is ideal for medium-sized spaces or as surround speakers.
The white magnetic grille is specifically designed to be customisable. It readily accepts acrylic or alkyd paint, allowing perfect harmony with your wall decor. We recommend applying a thin coat to avoid clogging the perforations and to preserve acoustic transparency.
This feature is particularly valuable when the speaker cannot be positioned at ideal ear height or when the listening area is offset from the speaker’s axis. Tweeter orientation lets you aim the inherently more directional high frequencies toward the main listening position, improving stereo imaging precision and dialogue clarity in home theater.
Thanks to their high 91 dB sensitivity and stable impedance, the IWT7s work well with a wide range of amplifiers. A model delivering between 30 and 100 watts per channel into 8 ohms will be perfectly suitable for domestic use. Today’s multichannel home theater amplifiers, even entry-level, generally provide enough power to fully exploit these speakers’ potential.
For optimal stereo listening, a spacing of 2 to 3 metres between the speakers is generally appropriate, forming an equilateral triangle with the listening position. This distance can be adjusted according to room width and listening distance, with the goal of achieving a coherent soundstage without a hole in the centre or channel separation effects.
